Wood/Casks / Re: Filling and emptying a barrel
« on: May 23, 2018, 01:01:02 PM »
Howdy got notification you were looking for a method.  Well I used THIS>>>

https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php?topic=1746.msg130227#msg130227

And Yes they do make 2 holed stoppers I had to do a lot of google searching finally found one.
It is white silicone.  Sorry can't recall the source.

I assume you have a couple kegs?  Fill one with CO2 gas and use it to Carefully push the beer
from your cask into a receiving Keg.  If you get too much pressure it will eject your 2 holed
stopper.  I found it easy to hold one hand on the stopper until I got the method down.

Word of caution Joe, when you put the Beam into an acrylic racking cane/tube, the alcohol
may cause the plastic to craze and crack to smithereens. Best to use glass, s.s., or copper tube.

Good luck.

Next 4 pack was different, better, not as hoppy.  Kinda puzzled by this inconsistency.  Minor detail
I am past the event horizon, water under the bridge.  Thanks for your thoughts

I just seek understanding.  The carton dated 01/17.  The beer was shelved and not in refer.
So your mention of sitting around could be the issue.  It was not triple hopped hoppy, just
more than the usual that I recalled, and really noticeable.

I have had the beer in the interim also so the 2011 date was my last post on the beer.
Had some last winter down here in the desert and it was Normal and very good and unlike this experience.

Commercial Beer Reviews / Duvel SNAFU at the Bottling Line?

I bought 2ea. 4 packs of Duvel from a retailer in Tucson. Imported by Duvel Mortgat on the label.
It really does not taste and smell like the Duvel from 2011.  Now I have not tried the Tripel Hop Duvel
just not a huge Hop head....that said, these beers taste like they got the tail end of the Tripel hop
bottle run and the labels had gotten changed to the Regular Duvel Style label.

What are the chances?

And NO, It does not do the remembrance of the Original Beer much Justice IMHO.

Save your cabbage for sauerkraut!
This brew gets no stars.  It is cloying Sweet with the phony ole cherry cough syrup flavors reminiscent of
childhood maladies.
Not even fit for cooking IMO. I would give it both thumbs down if I could.
Pours a reddish color with a thin ring of foam that does not last. Aroma of cherry cough drops.
Took a drink and had to cleanse my palate.
Wanted to toss it to the water recycle bin, but thought SHMBO may like it since we are opposite like that...
she tasted it and sure enough, said Don't toss it, I'll choke it down. Go figure....
Several hours later it sat there untouched so I set it free!

Could frost at anytime, but looks promising for another couple of weeks.  I have a few
cow horn peppers and cubanelles, and yellow squash hanging on....some new flushes of
spinach and yes.....SNOW peas are putting on again.  Grape and pear maters are going wild.
