is there any relation between the quality of the krausen on fermenting beer and the foam on the finished beer? Sometimes I see what I call creamy or gooey krausen and sometimes I see very delicate, lacy foam in the carboy. Is the character of the krausen any indicator of the character of the foam that will be seen in the glass when the beer is finished? So far I haven't seen any correlation.
I had a Stout with very little krausen foam and the finished beer had absolutely no head retention

Could it be that nitrogen isn’t liquified in those tanks and the amount of gas is much lower compared to liquified CO2 only?

Yeast and Fermentation / Vigorous fermentation with no krausen -- why?

I had the same problem with an Oatmeal Stout with Cacao but my guess is that the lack of foam was caused by the cacao oils. At the end the resulting beer tasted fine but with almost null foam retention.
Did you have the same problem with the finished beer?

All Grain Brewing / Re: Cocoa Nibs vs Cocoa Powder
« on: July 03, 2017, 09:28:42 PM »
Hello, I've been using nibs for some time but have had many problems with the beer foam. I used to add the nibs in the boil and now I'm using them in the mash which seems to help with the foam but it has no much retention.
I would appreciate any advice.

I do a CIP cycle before my brew day and have never had troubles with contaminations or anything. I use a caustic solution at 70C and recirculate for 10 minutes, then I use an acid solution at 60C for 10 minutes and lastly I do a recirculation with peracetic acid at room temperature for 10 minutes.

En Guadalajara teníamos el Mexican Homebrewers Association pero desde Noviembre pasado dejamos de juntarnos. Trataré de retomarlo en los próximos meses.

Thanks! That's good to know. Has anyone used lupuln2 powder? I just got my hands on some mosaic powder and was thinking this might be the perfect time to use it.
I,ve used it for dry hopping. Just use half of what you would use for pellets (by weight). In my experience you get more flavor compared to pellets.
