Hi everyone,

I was a bit optimistic about when I could start shipping the prizes and medals to the winners of the 2010 National Homebrew Competition.  The process has been delayed until today, but we will get them all shipped as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Cheers,

A break down of the numbers:

Brian

Thanks for the blog link, Brian.  It looks like the prediction panned out again this year for Gordon Strong, but this is a good look at the NHC First Round numbers.  FYI, CA has so many qualifiers because there are two regions in CA, the Southwest Region and the West Region; in addition to there being so many good brewers in the very big state of CA.

Congratulations to DOZE for winning the Homebrew Club of the Year award!

Cheers,
Janis

Hi everyone,

Congratulations to all of the winners in the 2010 National Homebrew Competition!

The score sheets for those who made it to the Final Round were either handed out right after the Awards Ceremony (June 19th) or have been mailed by the local Minneapolis/Saint Paul competition organizers.  Almost everyone with entries in the final Round should already have their score sheets.

The truck with all of the AHA National Homebrewers Conference supplies, including the medals, trophies, and prizes arrived in Boulder on Friday, June 25th.  I will be working on sending out all of the prizes and medals beginning tomorrow (6/29) and continuing into next week.  If your entry placed in the Final Round of the competition and you did not attend the Grand Banquet and Awards Ceremony, your medal and prizes will be coming soon.

Cheers,
Janis

Hi Chris,
The AHA has had Big Brew sites in Brazil for the past few years, but we don't have any Brazilian homebrew clubs registered;otherwise, I would have pointed your to the Club List in the Directories section of the web site.  You should probably post your question to TechTalk since that is sent to AHA members directly.  Good luck!

Events / Re: Looking for 1 ticket for Conferences in MN
« on: June 11, 2010, 09:37:08 AM »
My house got hit by a tornado Saturday night and the house is unliveable and I have got to find a new home so I most likely am not going to the conference and will have a ticket. I have no internet and have to go and borrow a computer to check my email so I will check in a few days. I have no idea how we sell the tickets that we purchased and it is the full package ticket? If someone knows how I can sell my ticket because I really need the money please post a reply and I will try to check this weekend. Thanks guys and I wish I was going to the NHC I am so mad that I can't go.

Hi Db,
Under these circumstances, the AHA will certainly refund your ticket.  Please contact Chris Williams at williams@brewersassociation.org or by phone 1-888-822-6273 x157 if you would like a refund.

I’m really sorry about your misfortune, and hope your life can return to normal soon.

Cheers,

Hi Db,
Unfortunately I listed the wrong extension in the earlier post.  Chris Williams' extension is 125, not 157.

Homebrew Competitions / Re: NHC Consolation prizes?
« on: May 28, 2010, 08:07:59 AM »
So, I got my NHC judging sheets a few weeks ago.  They were much lower than I would have hoped or expected.  So, I figured I bombed pretty bad.

Today I got 2 silver certificates and 3 bronze certificates.  The only beer I did not get a certificate for was one that scored 20.

So what do these mean exactly?  Is this just something everyone gets for participating so long as they score above 20?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for entering the 2010 National Homebrew Competition!

Certificates are awarded based on scoring ranges.  Here is the description from the National Homebrew Competition Rules & Regs;
"(2)  Certificates will be awarded to First Round brewers based on judges’ scoring and the following standards: Gold-Certificate winners have scores of 38-50, Silver-Certificate winners have scores of 30 to 37; Bronze-Certificate winners have scores of 25 to 29. Certificates are awarded separately from the ribbons and DO NOT indicate winning first, second or third place within a category or advancement to the Final Round."

Update:

We'll send an e-mail with the link to all advancing brewers on Wednesday (5/26/10).  When that happens, I'll take down the link on the main NHC page.

Cheers,

Homebrew Competitions / Goofy NHC Entry/Recipe Form Link
« on: May 25, 2010, 11:09:28 AM »
To all those whose First Round NHC entries have qualified for the Final Round of the National Homebrew Competition,

The link in the Instructions for Entering the Final Round page that was included in your package following the First Round is long and difficult to type in correctly.  If you have a typo, you will get a "page does not exist" error. I apologize for the trouble the link has caused.

The link is now posted on the Main NHC web page.  http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/pages/competitions/national-homebrew-competition

Good luck in the Final Round!

Hi Tim,

It would be a shame if you didn't take advantage of the conference in MN this year.  Please call Chris Williams (1-888-822-6273, williams@brewersassociation.org) to register for the Social package and to get wait listed for the seminars.  You're very lucky to have such an understanding partner.  I hope to see you at the conference!

Homebrew Competitions / Re: NHC 2010 Final round entries
« on: May 19, 2010, 02:24:58 PM »
Does anyone know when to expect these instructions about submitting your brews for the final rounds?  The entry date is creeping up and I have not heard anything yet about how to submit my 1st place finisher in the East region.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric,
The important dates and status updates for the National Homebrew Competition (NHC) are found on the main NHC web page: http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/pages/competitions/national-homebrew-competition.  The winners packages have been mailed Monday, Tuesday, and today.  The entry window is Monday May 24th through Monday June 7th.

Good luck in the Final Round of the competition!

Events / Mead Day 2010 Recipe
« on: May 12, 2010, 06:48:50 PM »
Hi everyone,

The recipe for mead Day has been posted on the AHA Homebrewopedia: http://wiki.americanhomebrewers.org/AHAMeadDay!  This year we're using the basic traditional mead recipe, but you have a choice of 5 types of fruit you can add to make a melomel style mead.

Mead Day is Saturday August 7th this year, so save the date and plan to make some mead with your family and friends!

Wassail!
