I'm reading his (Jeff Shaara) newest one right now, "A Blaze of Glory:  A Novel of the Battle of Shiloh".  I've read all of his books, love em all!

Harlan Coben is really good.  Especially the series with Myron Bolitar as the main character.  My wife had been recommending him to me for years, and I finally read one last summer.  Actually, I read them ALL.  They are that good!

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Famous Homebrewers

There are a couple of major league pitchers who are homebrewers.  One is even opening a micro.  Only problem is, I can't remember any of their names or even who they play for now.  I guess you could google it...

Forgot to mention that my beer did finish out at 1.000.  OG was 1.058.   Found it odd getting a7.2%+ beer from a starting gravity that low...

I used it for a"farmhouse ale", recipe was 2-row and red wheat from Valley Malts up in Maine, along with some aromatic.  For hops I used citra and saaz.  Also added coriander and bitter orange peel.  I mashed pretty low @ 147°.  I was aiming for a tropical fruity saison style beer and thats pretty much what I got.  I did leave it on the yeast for about 2 months.  If I'd have to say, the most noticeable thing from the brett is the tropical fruitiness, not necessarily alot of funk.

I'm originally from Emporium.  I've brewed at my parents and their water is very soft.

Yeast and Fermentation / Re: Starters?
« on: May 21, 2012, 03:43:47 AM »
I use the pressure cooker to make my starters well in advance.  I can usually make 5 quart-sized jars at a time.  They keep fairly indefinitely.  I put in 3.2 ounces DME, a pinch of yeast nutrient and fill to the neck with water.  Shake well and then cook at 15psi for 15 minutes.  Thanks to Drew for the info.

I brewed the San Diego Dark Session Ale and it is fabulous.  Absolutely drinkable and very tasty for a session beer.  Very nice hop/malt profile.

I've had 3 oz for quite some time, but have yet to use them.  I ordered them, Nelson Sauvin, and Mouteka.  Only one I've used so far is the NS.  Used it as a finishing hop in Tasty's Dortmunder.  Came out really nice.
