General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Free iPad Beer Recipe App
« on: June 29, 2013, 09:21:12 AM »
It's version 1 of the recipe formulation. I was trying to keep it simple and present everything on one screen.

As a long time all grain brewer, there's just a few things I care about with regard to recipe formulation:

1. hitting my target gravity
2. calculating IBUs
3. notes on yeast & ferm temp

I used to use ProMash, but was tired of keeping an old Windows box around for that. In ProMash I never used any other recipe features.

I wrote BrewBot for what I needed and wanted.

Let me know what features/tweaks you'd be interested in seeing.

General Homebrew Discussion / Free iPad Beer Recipe App
« on: June 28, 2013, 08:56:34 AM »
I've released a free beer recipe formulation app for the iPad.

I've been homebrewing since the late 90s and I've won multiple BOS awards around the country, AHA Mead Maker of the Year, and the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year.

I've taken just the elements I need as a brewer to make a simple, easy to use app that focuses only on the elements you need to put together a recipe.

Check it out here: http://itunes.com/apps/brewbotlite

With less than a week to go, we're almost at the entry cap.

Enter ASAP.

Only one week to go to the entry deadline. The entry cap of 1000 is 3/4 full.

I forgot to mention that one of the gold medal beers, not necessarily the BOS beer, from this year's UMMO will be chosen by Kris England of Pour Decisions Brewing Company to be brewed professionally at Pour Decisions.

Homebrew Competitions / Upper Mississippi Mash-Out 2013 Registration Open
« on: December 18, 2012, 02:58:40 PM »
Registration is open and nearly 1/3 full for UMMO '13. (Entries are capped at 1000.)

It's the 12th year for one of the largest, most competitive homebrew comps in the nation. This year's theme is The Dirty Dozen. We'll have an array of 100% brett-fermented beers with a unique new brett strain isolated by Pour Decisions Brewing Company brewer Kris England.

This year's speakers are two titans of homebrewing: Joe Formanek and Steve Piatz.

See all the details here: http://www.mashout.org

Go straight to registration: http://www.mashout.org/reg/login.php

Hope to see you in the Twin Cities at the end of January.

DOH!  Steve, I dickchimped it!  I had the display in landscape so I couldn't see the results box.  It works fine and I'm an idiot!

Whew!  ;D

I threw caution to the wind and spent 99 cents on the app. Looks like it would be handy. I recommend correcting the typos that crop up throughout the app (such as "Volumue" ... "Refractomemter" ... "Original Gavity" ... "Fahrenhiet") -- it will improve the credibility of your product.

Typos have been noted and corrected. A new release is pending and in the review process, which takes about 2 weeks.

would you be interested in adding "conversion efficiency" (http://braukaiser.com/wiki/index.php?title=Understanding_Efficiency#Conversion_efficiency).

This is one of the calculations that I do most often when I brew since I'm interested in getting to 100%.

Kai

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'll add this to my to do list.

Best wishes to Ken.

Great guy, great mead maker, great teacher.

We learned a lot from him here in St. Paul, MN.

Denny-

I've tested it on my iPad, which is a 1st gen running iOS 5, and it works just fine.

Not sure what to say.
