I love Eastwood but haven't seen it yet.

If you haven't seen it yet, you just need to choke yourself!!
Sorry.  That was my intrawebs Tourette's.
You should at least go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame, you know.

I'll give that a try.  Thanks for the help.

I am doing a 5 gallon batch.  I am guessing that based on the age of the smack pack, I am required to use 8 liters and 5 smack packs on a stir plate to get a starter for a 5 gallon 1.072 batch.
My stir plate decided to take a rest when I plugged it in, so I will have to randomly shake it, so that should make things a bit more complicated and interesting for the next couple days.

Yeast and Fermentation / Mr Malty question for starter
« on: April 20, 2010, 06:41:17 PM »
I have some old 1450 that I am going to use for Denny's RIPA on Sunday, and Mr. Malty says that I need a 3 liter starter with 5 yeast packs, even with the settings at the less yeast packs setting.  Would I be able to get away with stepping up one pack with 15 liters in a few 5 liter flasks?

The smack pack is from October of last year, BTW.

The Pub / Completely pathetic or completely AWESOME?

I was digging out my yeast starter from the back of the fridge and noticed that I have a bunch of beer.  Not a bunch of one kind, but one, two, or a few of a bunch of different varieties.  Out of curiosity, I grabbed one bottle of each variety and set it on my counter to get some sort of an idea of what I have.  If I see something that looks interesting at the beer store, I grab a six pack of it, and it may or may not get finished, and this is what has accumulated.  Each one is different, and there are even 3 or 4 different hoome brews in there.

So, pathetic or awesome?

From what I understand, this could be an infection from a sanitizing issue.  It has only happened to me on one bottle from a batch a couple years ago.  All the other bottles from that batch were OK.

The bassomatic is the only one true blender.  It could blend anything.

Yeast and Fermentation / How much of the 125 ml is yeast?
« on: April 01, 2010, 09:28:21 PM »
On the smack packs, it says that it contains 125 ml of liquid yeast and nutrients.  How much of that 125 ml is liquid yeast?  I am starting to harvest yeast from fermenting batches, and I would like to start making guestimates on how much slurry should go into a starter when it is time to brew again.  Thanks for any help.

My next door neighbor, who is an extract brewer, wanted to go through the AG process, so I was forced to brew for a second time in 3 days.  We did a Phat Tyre with US 05 today.  Oh the burden of brewing sweet, sweet beer!

I finally get to answer something other than "NOTHING."  I am currently in the process of 10 gallons of Bavarian Hefeweizen from NB.  I am splitting the batch between two fermenters- one with 3068, and the other with WLP300.  I am not anticipating much difference, but I figured it's worth a shot.

You need a catwalk.

Any feedback ideas would be appreciated

It isn't the weekend, but I will finally be able to brew something on the 17th or 18th.  I am thinking either Denny's RIPA or Bavarian Hefeweizen.  I have to get a starter going on Monday and give it enough time to finish out.

Welcome almost home! If you're even in Idaho, look me up! (just make sure I'm not wearing my kilt before you look up me)

I will take you up on that.  I have a good friend who works at a skydiving operation just outside Boise, and that is one of the few definite destinations on my road trip.
