The Pub / Re: I am bored and wish to be entertained

I routinely use a regular butane lighter as a bottle opener.  Doesn't seem very entertaining to me but it seems to generate awe in the masses.

Never have understood why people couldn't figure that one out. Easy to do but you can drop jaws.

I'm only 5' 8" tall but can kick over a 6' 2" persons head. Always seems to surprise someone when they find your foot an inch away from their face.

I'm 6'3" so I will refrain from letting you try that on me.

As I like to say, I have the second best job in the world.  I won't be able to move up a notch until Hugh Hefner vacates his position.  ;)
Bill, I can get you those measurements I neglected to provide in about 3 or 4 days.

I am on my way home after 11 1/2 months in Afghanistan!  It has been a long (almost) year without beer, home brewing, and lots of other stuff.  I placed an order last week with NB for enough ingredients to keep me busy for a few weeks at least.

To make up for the last year, I am planning a 4 or 5 week road trip around the USA checking out mountain biking and brew pubs around the country.  I'll be asking for some ideas when the time gets closer.  See you all soon.

So where's my aluminum foil jumpsuit and flying car?

Speaking of The Stand, I am just now to the part where Roland, Jake, Oy, Eddie, and Susannah just passed through the tinny into that land.

Pink Floyd

I was just going to throw in how well The Wall fits in at 2 O'clock in the morning with all the lights off and the TV on and muted after a long night of partying when I just don't want to go to bed and there's still the better part of a six pack in the fridge.

No, I'm not depressed and going downhill like Pinky in the movie.  It just helps to melt into the couch, enjoy a couple more beers on top of the existing buzz, and mellow out.

Loopy- take it easy, and if you find yourself in Fayetteville, NC shoot me an email and I'll buy you a beer if there's nothing in the kegs.

All Things Food / Re: Marmite

Oh and Vegamite is much better.

I have never had Marmite, but I have become a big fan of Vegemite in this last year.  We have an Australian aviation unit attached to our task force, and they are never in short supply.
One of my greatest joys is the look on the faces of the Americans when I convince them to try "Australian chocolate" on toast.  Of course I eat a big bite to show them that it is OK to eat  ;D

Weaz...I was thinkin' about these today.

Bacon wrapped cheddar chese stuffed jalapenos...with a nice IPA.  ;D

Do you put those things in the smoker, and if so, for how long?  That would be delish.  Just use the fat free bacon and fat free cheddar, and they will fit right into Weaze's diet plan.

I suggest jiu jitsu, cardio and moderate weight training.  That regimen helped me lose about 40 pounds in the last year, but then again, being in Afghanistan without beer has helped.  My wife did what blatz said- she started running with half marathons as her goal.  With about 6 months of training and watching what she is eating, she has dropped a bunch of weight also.
Jiu jitsu is more fun than running in my opinion, and just think- you might get lucky and find out where BFI trains.

Sounds good.  Good luck and hopefully I will be able to stop in for a pint or six some day.

When we were lined up for our flu shots a couple months ago, the PA was asking if anybody wanted to enter into the national database.  She said that she had been matched to somebody and donated.  According to her, it was relative painless without any long lasting effects.
I entered myself into the database so I can give if need be.

The Pub / Re: tipping?
« on: February 04, 2010, 01:54:38 PM »
Service is an important part of the dining experience.  Yes, the food is the most important part but the quality of the service can make or break the experience.

Good service should be expected as it is in any other non-tipping business. It shouldn't be any different in the food industry. I personally wish they'd up the prices and eliminate tipping all together.

Eliminate tipping, and eliminate the wait staff's motivation to provide you with timely service.  My wife and I tip well, and when we go to our favorite restaurants, our regular waitresses have full beers on the table before we even have to order them most of the time, and our food orders are prompt and out of the kitchen, even on extremely busy nights.  We are very friendly with our servers, but it definitely isn't our personalities that gets us consistently great service.
