I mean what is flat anyway. Some carbonation will have to occurred even if the gauge was off, right? I went to Tastybrew's Keg calculator and 1.5 volumes would only need 1.4psi at 40F. For 2.6 volumes you'd need 13.4 psi. Is 1.5 volumes considered flat? Tom I'm deferring to your expertise. :D

First of all welcome to the AHA forum!

You will plenty of responses.

My opinion: You have a leak or your gauge is whack. If I was a betting man (I am) then my money's on the "leak." Check again. The keg too. It might be the lid isn't seated properly, the posts leaking or even the pressure release valve. Is it a single keg system? if not what about the other kegs?

With all due respect, canned boiled peanuts are to fresh boiled peanuts what canned corn is to fresh boiled corn on the cobb.

They'll do if you're stuck in a fallout shelter hiding from nulear winter.

Oh I'm not saying they're badass. But now I have something to go by. For my location, which is fairly Southerly- boiled peanuts are something of a rarity even though we grow'em here.

I will be sure to stop at any roadside Boiled Peanut stand to sample the wares.

Maybe we should start a pool on what style of beer will be Babalu's first!

We could then arrive at a recipe by consensus- and have it brewed and sent to him for when he's ready! He probably has a favorite style.

Flip side to that it might be Jeff won't be doing any drinking for quite a while. Depends on the extent of his recovery and what medications he'll be taking.

However you make the BB soup I find it is important not to make a gloppy stoup. Should be on the thinner side IMO. I find it beneficial with bean soup to remove half the solids and puree what's left in the pot with a stick blender. Then the solids go back in. The texture should be smooth overall, but not overly thick consistency.

A sour cream garnish from a squeeze bottle makes a nice addition to BB soup along with some spicy pico de gallo.

Found a can of Green Boiled Peanuts. Margaret Holmes Peanut Patch brand.

Drain and rinse. Shell like regular peanuts. Briny. Soft texture and tastes like a bean married a peanut. Hard to describe but I can see the same compulsive behavior as with regular peanuts in the shell. Firm shells and not slimy. The one's I had before had to have been made by someone who didn't know what they were doing.

Have a towel handy.

Seems to me it works out to about the same price as store-bought. I calculate 29-30 cents per ounce. However, the pleasure of making and eating the cheese is incalculable.

I walked out of the store yesterday with a big wedge of Henning's Natural Horseradish Cheddar. Quite possibly one of the best I've had in a long time.

I'm glad you're having success with the new press. What's the longest you've aged cheddar? Some of the sharpest I've had was 18 months.

Looked hard at the freezers...... but between getting one and the thermostat setup it was too much $$. They're flying off the shelf on Craigslist here.....

So, I got a Sears fridge, up/down, freezer down. This way you don't have the hump in the bottom of the fridge. Took out all the shelves and it will fit 6 cornies easily, pin or ball with plenty of head space for plumbing. Taps are going in the door, there's no risk of running into refrigerant lines in the door.

Craigslist, $50 out the door, no additional electronics required.

Jeez. No-ones giving stuff away around here like that. How many cf?

You can pour the slurry you want to keep into sanitized plastic (PET) water or soda bottles and chill. I like the 8 oz ones. That way I can pitch right into the fermenter after they've warmed up.

Since I prime and carbonate the beer in the keg now and just use the tank to push the beer my usage has gone way down. I filled my #5 tank back February and still have about 700psi in it.  ;D

You do know that, like propane, the only real way to measure how full a CO2 tank is is to use a scale, right?  Like propane, that 5# (or whatever) tank has liquid CO2 in it.  The gas pressure will only vary with temperature until the liquid is gone.  Once the high-pressure needle starts to drop AT ALL, your tank is essentially empty.

Yes. They weigh it out. I've seen it. I think ten+ months on a #5 tank is impressive at my consumption levels.  :D I used to do about 3 refills a year when everything was force-carbed. As far as the needle dropping YMMV. I have a saying: in the red- it's dead.

I'm not trying to start an argument, especially in this thread.  But crediting prayer is an affront to the women and men who have worked so hard all of this time to help Jeff get better.  The credit goes to them, all of the doctors and scientists before them who figured out how to treat his condition, his wife for getting him to the hospital quickly, and perhaps most importantly, Jeff for being strong and fighting.

You are right to acknowledge the people who are helping Jeff. But we can agree to believe in what we believe in... there's enough credit to go around. If people think prayer changes things, then they are right. It changes *them* in important ways, and that's miracle enough.

That's very tactful and sensitive. In retrospect my last post was probably too much for some. For that I will apologize.
