Beer Recipes / Denny's BVIP . . Extract?
« on: November 27, 2009, 05:59:47 AM »
My friend Jim came up for the weekend and last night we shared an AG BVIP I made back in September. He went nuts over it and wants to make a batch for himself. He is however, an extract guy. So, is there an extract rec. for this floating about or someone (denny) care to help out?

When I click on a folder at the home page, no topics show up unless I click the "Mark as Read" tab . . just started today and it doesn't seem to save my preferences, (or at least remember my last action)

I've got a 5 gallon keg that's really aggravating me. >:(

One half of the top has popped loose from the keg and I can't seem to find the right adhesive to get it to stay down . . even tried Gorilla which I thought would be ideal.

Yeast and Fermentation / Progressively Adding Yeast to a Big Beer
« on: November 16, 2009, 12:26:33 PM »
Getting ready to brew a Wee Heavy and a Barleywine. In the past I've made big starters and added it all at once to the primary after a healthy dose of O2. Does anyone progressively add new, healthy yeast in primary to your biggest brews rather than pitching all at once? Is there any benefit/ detriment? I've added nutrient along the way, but never new yeast.

Equipment and Software / Cooler Heater
« on: November 11, 2009, 05:28:49 PM »
Has anyone ever added or attempted to add some sort of heater directly to a Coleman/ Gott/ Rubbermaid type mashtun? I really love my 60 quart Gott and thought I'd make a HERMS unit for it to do more step mashes or have absolute heat control through HERMS recirculation, but now I really think I'd rather try to modify my Gott if there is a practicle way of accomplishing the install. Whatever type of heater element is used will obviously need to be electric and it WILL be controlled by a PID w/ SSR. Part of the criteria is for the lid to remain closed for the duration of the mash, so heat sticks are out . . .

I'll entertain any ideas or happily look at pics!  :)

Might as well jump right in and put up something of substance. Here's a link to some pics at the 1st ever Cigar and Brew Fest in Jackson, TN this past Saturday. If you look close at the names on the tap handles, you might see one or two you recognize!  ;D
