The Titans are FOR REAL! Been a long time since the O put up more than 30 points in a game. Finally, Chris Johnson gets back to over 100 yds. and the receivers really stepped up in Kenny Britt's absence.

Also, who are those impostors in Detroit?

Yeast and Fermentation / Re: Please tell me this isn't what I think it is
« on: September 30, 2011, 02:23:17 PM »
I've never had a fruit fly make it through a wet airlock in a carboy. With buckets the airlock doesn't matter, they can get through the seals (or their larvae can).

I can't be certain, but I think it may have happened when the yeast popped the top on the 3 piece airlock during a vigorous ferment phase. Not sure how long it was exposed before I found it, but apparently long enough . .

Yep, hate to break it to you but that looks like acetobacter. Does the film have a waxy consistency? Have you seen any fruit flies around the fermenter? This is fruit fly season. I think I lost a batch 2 or 3 years in a row late sept/early oct. once. All in plastic buckets.

Yeah, the fruit flies have been congregating like a Biblical plague around here  . . I had one carboy of Dubbel that may have succumbed to the hordes . . .

Ingredients / Re: Acid Malt in a Saison
« on: September 29, 2011, 06:17:54 PM »
I guess I will be in the minority here and cloud the issue. If you are aware of your water profile and the ramifications of mash pH, then I think you definitely can get a flavor contribution from acid malt. I did just what you are proposing and made a Sorachi Ace hop Saison that turned out great! I thought about doing a sour mash and even sought advice on another forum, but the advice was to use the acid malt instead, and I must say I'm pleased with the results . .  I used 1.5% sauer malt in my recipe and there is a subtle tartness to the finished product that I feel would not have been there without the addition.

2 cents.

I realize it's not video, BUT . . .

The Captain Fantastic pinball machine . . I used to go to Aladdin's Castle in the mall w/ $1 in quarters, and with all the bonuses, play that thing for 2 hours straight . . .

Happily, one of my radio clients just happens to own the Dr. Pepper/ Pepsi distributorship . . Care to guess who gets all the free cornies and 20 lb. CO2 tanks they want?   :D

The Coleman Extreme makes a great MT . . stick with that and you will be fine.

And whatever you do, never, never ever give in to any temptation to buy a red cooler for your mash tun.

Real home brewers only use blue . . .

Should be done brewing for the remainder of this year, unless I decide to make Belgian Pale Ale. Kegged 2 cornies of Dubbel last night, will rack a Belgian Blonde to secondary tomorrow night, keg the Patersbier and rack the Wit to secondary on Monday.

Titans looked ugly but pulled out the win against the hapless Broncos.

Losing Kenny Britt doesn't help our cause, either . . .

I know, that's a huge bummer. I never did hear the extent of his injuries.

Not good . . according to the Tennessean . . .

"Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt will undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee to repair multiple torn ligaments."
