So I have 4 5 gallon pin lock kegs the I have been using but since I had to move the kegerator had to go bye bye. I want to keep my kegs but I may not use them for atleast a year or two. How should I prep them for storage any pointers?

Or should I not take the time and just sell them?

1.5 pounds Flaked rice
1.5 pounds 20l crystal

1oz tettnanger   60min
.5oz saaz         30 min

Yeast and Fermentation / First Starter
« on: September 19, 2011, 12:41:00 PM »
Hello,

So digging through the posts i cant find a answer to my question.

So I making a lager with a gravity of 1.050 and i was on mr malty and it told me that i need a starter of 7.86 litres or 2 gallons. That seems a little big isnt it?
what should the size be?

Next question if i want to make a gallon starter do i make a gallon of wort at a gravity of about 1.040 and add one wyeast activator pack and let it forment for about 24 hours then add that to my wort?
Or how do I do it?

I need a idiot proof answer bc i am trying to figure out this yeast starter thing lol

Yeast and Fermentation / 78 degrees too hot?
« on: May 30, 2011, 01:03:54 AM »
So i had the perfect basment for fermenting the ambient temp was about 65- 68 degrees but not anymore my brother took over the basement and his computer works better then our furnace at times.

My question is this for a ale is 78 degrees too warm?
Is 78 degrees to warm for a diacetyl rest and for initial fermenting when i am making a lager?

I have a dorm fridge that I converted with a johnson control so i can get 68 degrees but then I forgo my beer fridge for a while

I have a three parter if i take a half drank keg out of my fridge let it get back to room temp then cool it down back down does that effect it? If i can how many times can i do that befor the beer is shot

General Homebrew Discussion / What beverage to drink this weekend?
« on: April 21, 2011, 06:55:50 PM »
So i am a little familiar with styles and such. I was wondering what kind of style should i get to enjoy this weekend?
What style is good for the month of april?

The liquor store by my house has hundreds of different craft beers from places and that all they do so my plan is to build a six pack of one style but from different breweries.

What are you thoughts?

All Grain Brewing / Getting Started
« on: April 17, 2011, 05:43:11 PM »
So I am trying to get into all grain.
So most likely i can find the answer to all my questions through reading other peoples post but to be honest i am lazy lol.

So should I go with a direct fire set up for mashing with a low btu burner and a pot with a screen flase bottom  and valve set-up?

Or a cooler mash tun set like http://www.midwestsupplies.com/single-infusion-mash-tun.html

And i have been looking at recipes i am interested in and they have set set temp like 120 degrees for 30 min then 30 min at 150 degrees and so forth. how do you do that and what is the point of doing that?
