Well it is making me queasy with this extended fermentation but yes it was a stupid cell phone spell check. You would have thought wyeast would be in the dictionary from the beginning.

Mine is still in the primary. It's been 13 days and gravity is at 1.014 and still dropping everyday. Crazy how long the krausen has stuck around on the this beer. Was hoping to bring it to a homebrew festival in August but it may not be ready by then. I used queasy trappist high gravity BTW.

I can understand why you want to argue this topic.  You are quite sure your practice is THE way to make beer.  You have likely made thousands of posts on the topic in a similar manner and really hate to admit being wrong in prolific retrospect.  Most of the time you give very solid advice based on plenty of brewing experience and a very good understanding of how to brew. 

However, this is a time where you are more concerned about protecting your reputation than actually accepting something science has determined which contradicts your personal experience.   

Some people take your advice without questioning it.  Others do some research and try something contrary to your advice and determine there is more than one way to make a tasty beer.

This is the closest I've seen Denny to being speechless.

It's the only way I can respond to a personal, insulting attack.

He's just jealous of the beard.  ;)

Dragging this back up to see how they turned out. Brewing the westmalle clone tonight, 12 pounds pils with 3 pounds sugar, trappist high gravity slurry from a Belgian pale I made last week.

I had a great time.  It was my first.  Enjoyed almost all of it.  BNA9 party may have been my favorite part.  Did not intend to go but on the spur of the moment decided to go and had an exceptional time.  Does anyone know if there is a video of John Palmer's infamous "slide" anywhere on the net?

Seeing Palmer biff it while running the bases was well worth the price of admission  :) seriously though I thought it was a great time. There were plenty of decent beers when you first showed up. There were some long lines but not too bad. The only issue was the food. I'm fine with burgers and dogs but my wife is vegetarian and her only option was a pretzel or chips and cheese. She still had a great time though. Always love meeting and talking to other homebrewers too. Great folks!

Anyone else get a really sore throat after the conference followed by sickness?  Seems several people I know did... Someone was the Outbreak monkey this weekend.

I was fine.  I did talk to you for several minutes during Club Night.  I was more concerned about the crowds at the airport.

I feel like I got lucky. Stayed away from glass sharing as much as I could and I even traveled around with two sickies for most of the event. The only issue I had was not wanting any beer for about 3 days after.

I was very interested in the blichman heating system. I actually like the proprietary connector since I could unhook it and not have cords hanging off my brew kettle. I have a few other investments I have to make first like a pump and oxygen but in a few years, might be on the Christmas list.

I'll post a few of my I observations as well. Let it 've known this was my second conference as I was in Philly last year.

Overall I thought the conference was a huge success. Every event has its hiccups and this was no exception but it was still a great event. I loved how the expo and the social club had a lot more room than last year. Made the expo much easier to get around. I also loved the beer at the expo. Having the professional brewers bring most of the beer there and serving all three days was better to me than one single night.

I didn't attend a lot of seminars since my wife came and that really wasn't here thing. Instead I took a few trips around town going to founders and Rockford brewing. All places were very accommodating and had excellent beers. I was lucky to have a vehicle there but felt GR was much easier to get around and had better breweries within walking distance than last year.

The couple things I didn't like were the after hours social well or whatever they called it. Was weird to just have thousands of people exit club night and have the social well in the lobby area of Devos center. I was expecting it to be in one of the ballrooms or somewhere else.

The banquet food was much better than last year and was very very good. Sean outdid himself this time. The beer was not as good. I was much more impressed with the offerings from rogue last year than what Sam Adams brought this year.

All in all, thought is was an A grade conference and would fully expect GR to host it again in the future. I hope to be able to get to San Diego next year as I hear it's a great beer city and wonderful weather.

Really?  I was a little bummed about my experience.  We left early. 

The venue was great and really spread out.  Lots of fun activities for sure.  I had a VIP ticket and the music was decent up in the VIP area.... and not crazy loud due to the openness of the patio it was on.  You had easy access to water, food, etc during the party.  This was great.

There were not very many beers to be had and many of them started running out by about 9:30.

There were a few more beers in the VIP area... but it was so far removed from the rest of the event that we were not up there except at the start and at the very end (~10 when we left) when they only had 2 beers left.  The beers in the VIP area were not as 'rare' as they have been in the past parties I've gone to.  The food in the VIP area seemed to be the same as everyone else could get.. With the exception of a few desert items.  For all the extra money I paid for the VIP ticket I was left feeling a bit screwed.  Maybe I would have been 'ok' with the regular ticket though...

One other thing that might have made it a bit 'blah' for me was I had had most of the beers that were served there before.  Which is likely just due to geographical issues.  I guess looking back I have always enjoyed the BNA parties for all the beers that I just have no access to.  I had thought of this ahead of time and that is why I got the VIP ticket.  I really thought they would have some more beers that were harder to get.  Even if they were just some of the many many delicious Michigan beers.

I wonder if the BN was restricted to dealing with distributors for the event, so they couldn't get "special" beers from breweries.

That seems to be what I keep hearing Jeff. Hopefully we can get some laws changed before it comes again. It would be great to get beers that are normally not sold here brought in just for this event.

Didn't brine one myself this year but I'll be cooking it in the morn with beer and then wrapping it in foil and keeping it warm in the smoker for a couple hours while I mess with the veggies before the folks come over.

I bought two this year, second one is destined for pastrami later on.
