WY2278 is the yeast that I use when brewing my Czech Pils. I have 10 gallons brewed February 18 that is lagering at around 33 degrees (I'm testing it about every other day). Of all the styles of beer that I brew, this this is probably my favorite.

To me it's setting aside a day that is mine to spend doing something I love to do. Drinking coffee, snacking on salted in the shell peanuts and an occasional cigar in order during the process. Look to the west and see the mountains (only when not obstructed by the steam of Jim's brew kettle).

Oh and don't forget the "Hot Scotchies" when draining the mash tun!

So, my answer is having a great way to spend a day!

Boy, I hate to see that. It's been a stop for us the last few times we been in Bend and always enjoyed it. Haven't been to the other ones in Boise and Portland.

We used to have a sign in our office that was lost in our remodel that said, "Quality, Service, Price- Pick any two". We are the best, in my opinion, in quality and service. We are not the cheapest however we are the best value. I apply the same principles to my brewing suppliers even if he is sometimes a little more expensive.

Another Geezer here.

I got a fairly deluxe kit (for those days) for Christmas in about 1992 and brewed a 4-5 extract batches before my wife kicked me out of the kitchen. I joined the local homebrew club the next year and started brewing all grain and kegging.

Although I enjoy the process, the flexibility making what I want and the end product, one of the reason I love to brew is for therapy. After dealing with the public and employees all week, it's like taking a mini vacation for a few hours.

The best reward is that I've met a lot of great friends through homebrewing and enjoying a craft beer.

I'd have to find some crappy old extract and yeast. The ingredients weren't that great 22 years ago. The beer was still better than most of what was available back then. That being said, I might do a kit just for kicks.

It's not a true gravity stand, but my stand looks a lot like the Sabco Brewmagic. Of course it depends on the size of the kettles you are going to use, but I think they even have the dimensions at their website. You'll need to pump water from the HLT to the mash tun. I didn't want my HLT to be too high off the ground. Works great.

Steve- I've got to stop and have a beer or two at Bert's sometime. Any other good beers on tap?
It seems lately we go to Famous Dave's not so much for the food, but I like the beer choices (50 of them).

Jim- great description! We were up in Leavenworth earlier this summer and enjoyed a couple afternoons at the brewery. Along with Crosscut, Bootjack is one of the better IPA's in my opinion. Fun place!

I love zucchini fried, deep fried, sliced up in my salad, and "pickled" in Asian wine vinegar, but I don't want it anywhere near my beer. Same with pumpkin, leave it for pies.
