Kegging and Bottling / Re: Cleaning kegerator
« on: October 30, 2012, 06:38:49 PM »
I tried to take the faucets apart by hand, no dice. Hopefully the LHBS will have the appropriate wrench.

It's the same wrench used to remove the buttstock sleeve from an AR-15. So you don't have to get a uni-tasker. ;)

That is good to know.  Since I already have the tool I might as well get an AR-15 now

Absolutely.  :)

And who doesn't have AR-15s and kegerators?   8)

Ahem.  ;)

Please do not post questions before Oct. 22.  I wanted to give everyone a heads up to start thinking about what you might like to ask.  I'll post more as we get closer to 10/22 to remind everyone and let you know when the question period is open.

Just picked up 4 ounches of 2012 Galaxy and 6 ounces of 2011 Nelson from Nikobrew.  I've never used the Galaxy before but I made a really nice late hopped pale ale with NS last year that was a big hit at a club meeting.

Love Galaxy, almost 2 lbs. in the freezer still... 8) Makes a great single hopped IPA IMO.

Hey, here's an idea!  Let's stop force-feeding corn to our livestock and let them eat grass, which grows for FREE!!

Grass-fed is the way to go.  Time to break our obsession with corn.  C'mon people, let's get real here.  If you're still in the dark about the corn issue, check out one of the following:

The Omnivore's Dilemma (Michael Pollan)
Food, Inc (documentary version of Omnivore's Dilemma, essentially)
King Corn (documentary)

What's it going to take to wake America up?

Honestly, I would focus more on technique than equipment.  You haven't brewed for almost a year, you need to brew a lot more, no matter your equipment.  Technique can only be honed by repetition.

^^ This. I use an Extreme and nail my temps every time.

What's your Mako IPA recipe use for a hop schedule?

for 12 gal:

70 IBUs total

xxoz Columbus for bittering
2oz each Centennial and Simcoe at 20 min
2oz Amarillo at 10 min
2oz each Amarillo and Cascade at Flameout

Dryhop # 1 - 10-12 days
2oz Simcoe
1oz Amarillo
1oz Columbus

Dryhop # 2 - in keg
2oz of either Simcoe or Columbus - I usually do Simcoe in one keg and COlumbus in the other

Good to see ya back, man. Life happens...
Gonna give this hop potion a try! Woot!

OTOH, I am.  I usually look at a clock every time I take a sip.  My goal is to make 1 pint last an hour.

+1. A reasonable pace considering I drink mostly 7-8% beers...
