Windows 8 is the new era Windows ME and Vista.  We'll stick with Win7 at work for the time being.  We sill have a ton of XP machines.

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: New brew pot suggestions

I have the 10 gallon Megapot from Northern Brewer with brewometer and ss ball valve.  I only do 5 gallon batches as well.

Solid kettle.  Sometimes with my 90 minute boils, it can get really close to the top but a little Fermcap-S and a spray bottle in hand takes care of that.

HA!

Best line in the article:

Rykoff concluded, "Once again, the Yankees have figured out yet another way to charge a superior price for an inferior product."

Of course you could change "charge" with the word "pay" and have it still apply.

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Lagering in corny kegs

All my lagering is done in kegs.  The first couple pints will be cloudy, but clear as a bell after that.

Yeah, I'm assuming they had a run on them since it the price is higher and it is now a 11-14 day wait for them.

Sure beats buying them in the grocery store where a bottle of 3-4 shriveled beans sets you back $11.

I like to bottle high gravity beers so it doesn't sit on tap for 2 months and I can enjoy them at my leisure.

Same here but I will keg it first to get the carbonation set and and age it a bit, but then bottle the batch with the beergun for long term aging.

I'm heading up to NYC to judge the regionals.
Ron, did you get my check in the mail yet?  ;)

Good luck with the judging.

Same here with TOS although it was reruns since I was born a year or two after the series went off the air.  I was just never one of those guys that could quote every line, episode, alien, etc from the show.

My 10 year old son and I are watching Voyager from the beginning ( currently in season 3 ) on Netflix and he loves it.  The Fair Haven episodes are some of my favorites from the series...who wouldn't want to live in an Irish village with a pub and no technology like smartphones, etc.

Enterprise was ok.  I've always like Scott Bakula as an actor, being a big Quantum Leap fan.

I too have the DVD collection but I'm not sure I need the Blurays but that is a great price.  Now if I could just get TNG and Voyager complete series at a price like this.

And yes, I like TNG and Voyager better that TOS.  (I know...tomatoes ready...fire)

1. Time.  It is much easier kegging than bottling and takes less time.
2. Cleaning is easy.  Homemade keg cleaner (bucket, pump, line and disconnects).  Stick it on and let it rip.  Also clean lines with gadget featured on AHA site.
3.  Easier to store 30 gallons (6 kegs current ) than a bunch of bottles
4.  Cleaner product, especially since I like to brew a lot of lagers.  No sediment in keg after first couple pints, unlike bottles which have sediment in each
5.  Looks cool  8)
6.  And Amanda's reason to pull exactly how much I want...sometimes just a small glass, others a liter or two  :o
