The Pub / Any hunters here?
« on: November 17, 2012, 07:41:40 AM »
I used to hunt growing up in VT.  This was back in the day when I'd get home from school and walk thru town into the woods carrying my 30-30, past an elementary school.  Boy times have changed.

I stopped hunting when I moved to NY in the early '90's, where you carry a gun for a totally different reason.  When I moved to NH, I just never hot back into it.

Luckily most of my family in VT still hunts so I have a supplier of venison, turkey, and they even got a moose this year.

Thankfully Northern New England didn't get hit with this.  I had a lot of wind and rain, and lost power for about 26 hours.

The devastation in NY, NJ, & CT was unbelievable.  Hope everyone is getting back to normal.

I do and I use a small screwdriver ( from a PC tool kit ) to help move the "feet" but not too hard.  Sometimes they just need a little nudge.

I only take them out when I do a full cleaning and gasket replace...maybe once or twice a year.  Otherwise I just run cleaner through them with my keg washer.

If anyone is in the Portsmouth, NH area this weekend, Earth Eagle Brewing is having their taproom Grand Opening on Saturday, November 17 from noon - 4pm.  The brewery is located adjacent to A&G Homebrew Shop on 165 High Street.

Along with some traditional style beer (i.e. New England Gansta IPA ), they are specializing in gruits.  Having tasted a few from the homebrew version, they should do well.

If you are in the area, you should check them out.

but the movie, the song, the coffee houses, the software co, etc. are in totally different lines of business that have, with the possible exception of the movie, nothing to do with beer.

not saying they did the right thing or handled it well but they did take an action when an action needed to be taken.

Except the SB Tavern, which you could say is in the same business ( as much as a homebrew shop and a brewery are ).  But then, maybe they're next.

Much like the Monster/Vermonster mess, they aren't really in the same line either, but they gave up the pursuit when they realized the PR nightmare that was brewing ( tee hee ).  I guess in the end the homebrew shop will "win", but the locals I'm sure will still call the brewery Strange Brewing.  I never stopped calling a concert venue in Southern MA "Great Woods" just because Verizon, Comcast, Fidelity, etc decided to change it's name.  I am however too young to call the Patriots stadium Shaefer Stadium but at least it's not CMGI anymore.

Holy crap I'm rambling!!!

Well, if our recent weather patterns in the Mid-Atlantic Region(Hurricane Sandy and the Nor'easter last week) are an indication of what's to come....we're going to have rough winter.  :-\

Well last year in the Northeast we had Hurricane Irene and about 1.5 ft of snow on October 29th and it was the winter that never happened.

Good to know though they take longer than 5 minutes to dissolve.

Wow, you must have some tough Whirfloc!  When I add 1/2 tab it dissolves almost instantly.
I add mine at 10 minutes and I crush it with the back of a spoon before adding it.  And yes, it does fizz when you add it.  I always imagine I'm making some potion and this is the ingredient that goes "poof" and makes the skull and crossbones appear above the kettle like in the Bugs Bunny cartoons.  ;D

I'm surprised General Motors hasn't nailed you to the wall yet.  GMAC(General Motors Acceptance Corporation) is(was?) the financing and insurance arm of GM.
Was. Now reorganized as Ally Financial (or something lake that).

But still doing business under GMAC Mortgage?  Now I'm totally confused on who to send my mortgage payment to?  GMAC or GMAC?  ;D

I also find it strange that they feel they must defend their trademark from a brewery 2000 miles away but have no problem with a beer establishment 60 miles away from their shop.

The Strange Brew Tavern mentioned in the letter back to the lawyer is in the city I work in and I have never confused the two.

I have heard of Strange Brew homebrew supply since it is somewhat local to me, and wanted to check them out someday, but not going to happen as long as this stuff goes on.  I understand wanting to protect your trademark, but this company must think homebrewers and craft beer drinkers are a bunch of knuckle dragging neanderthals if they think we can't tell the difference.

First rule of the Brewer's Code, dude..."Don't be a dick!"
