Ingredients / Re: help me identify this hop pest

Just a guess, but maybe these little fellas:

Leafroller caterpillar larva

Many small cream to green colored caterpillars roll and/or tie leaves together where they feed inside. These leafrollers are generally early season pests but can persist through the summer.

Equipment and Software / Re: From the kettle to the fermenter

I whirlpool with a sanitized spoon, let settle, then transfer with the autosiphon.  That is until my new 10 gallon kettle with SS ball valve arrives from Northern Brewer...woohoo!!!!  I love birthdays!!!

Mix it up.  Not much of a recipe creator...don't know enough yet.  Do a lot of Jamil recipes from Brewing Classic Styles and clones from Can You Brew it.

I think you should have your own category Denny......Over 2000 posts?   :D

You mean "Denny Member"?  I'll pass  :D

I going to brew an Oktoberfest Ale ( picked up the kit from Brewmasterwarehouse off their recipe database...a recipe by Bee Cave Brewery - homebrewer I've seen on other forums )

I see you point Major...,I was thinking he may need the larger fermenter for his new batch he wants to do.  I hate brewing beer and getting an ounce less than 5 gallons...which is why my 5 gallon better bottles rarely get used.

How about hybrids, like "Full Hero Member".  Regetting the day when I reach Senior Member though.

edit:  Dammit...I'm already there!

I just brewed this and used pellets.  Drink it fast though, because it fades quickly.  Next time I make it, I may up the dry hop charge a bit.

Also, personally, I see no need to secondary a 1.044 amber ale. Just leave it in the primary an extra week or two then package as normal.
I agree with this unless your primary is larger than your secondary fermenter. ( 6 gallon carboy vs 5 gallon carboy, etc ).  If they are both the same, I wouldn't secondary.

Oh, I forgot to mention that he sent me home with a growler full of smoked baltic porter too.  ;D
Now you're just rubbing it in  ;)

Nice score.

Just closing them may not seal them completely.  Hit them with a blast of CO2 to seal them then turn upside down to check.  Sometimes reseating the lid also is enough.

1.070 is pretty high.  Personally, I wouldn't reuse a yeast from a beer that high...others may disagree.

All Things Food / Re: Beer Dough - Pizza
« on: July 13, 2010, 07:25:46 AM » does exist.  I also love sour dough pizza crust...just not sure how it would be with the beer recipe.  Maybe a lambic :)
