The Pub / Biking across America
« on: August 28, 2012, 12:49:07 PM »
I am closing in on retiring from the Air Force and not looking to jump into a job right off the bat so I am thinking of doing a cross country trip of some sort that is most likely going to be on a bike.  Has anyone on here done something like this and if so, was it worth it?

I suppose if there is a way to not make the big beers mad by drinking good craft beer during election year is to bring our own homebrew to the party.

What's going to be funny is when/if it is released that there will be someone, possibly on this site who goes "WTF, that's my recipe!"  I assume there may not be an official White House brewer who came up with the grain bill on these two beers.

Oh I know they are not judging but with an understanding of some of the good home brewed beers happening in this country, I understand what "could" possibly win.

Dammit, had I paid attention to the top prize (assuming I have/had a chance) I would have done something a bit more Nogne style as in something slightly different.  Oh well, I am just hoping for some good results with what beers I send in.

The Pub / Re: Backcountry beer

I thought the point of backpacking was to simplify and leave all your stupid s*** at home. Taking along a beer concentrate and a force carbonator seems really silly to me, but I'm in the 'just drink whiskey or water' camp.

+1

Just take some really good whiskey and a couple of cans of something you like.  Hiking doesn't have to be a bender.

Anyone else getting a Dirk Diggler, Reed Rothchild vibe here?

So, you want five or ten?

Just puked in my mouth a bit.

How do you carbonate/prime would be the first question?

A local pub over here in England asked if I would brew a pin (5 gal) for their Beerfest back in June. It never cleared in time for the fest but once it did, it went on the bar. People asked for seconds, that's what worked for me. It was a basic bitter brewed with pilsner that I found faults with but nobody else did. That felt pretty good.

Well I have 6 bottles that I put in my luggage here in England now.  2 to share and 4 to try and take my time with.

They also had Bear Republics and Magic Hats rye beers but neither came close to the founders.

Commercial Beer Reviews / Founders Reds Rye PA
« on: July 21, 2012, 09:15:50 AM »
I have been back in Ohio for a class and found a bar (One Eyed Jacks) in Dayton that had Founders Reds Rye PA.  This beer was the money shot for me.  As a home brewer, rye is one of the ingredients that I have been using a lot of.  Founders really hit the mark with the full flavor rye can give.  I think it was the few of us in the class that drained the keg of it they had on tap.

Has anyone else had this beer and what are your thoughts?

Tim

Although guilty, I am making a stand. This thread has got to die.
