Pimp My System / Finished My Brew Stand
« on: June 08, 2016, 09:15:31 AM »
It took ~28 hours of work and a lot of 6160 aluminum, button head cap screws, lockwashers and nuts but I finished my new brew stand and took it on a test run last night. I had the natural gas line extended to the patio when we finished the basement. Goodbye propane.

Here is what I have been using for the past 11 years:

And here is the upgrade:

I didn't want to have to hassle with any pumps.  I've seen too many issues with pumps on others' systems - maybe I'm a jinx on them - so I decided, "No thanks". Sticking to gravity feed. It ain't the prettiest and still needs some tweaks.  I plan to add a couple of shelves and hooks to hang my mash paddle, spoon, hoses, etc.

I cant wait to brew on it!

Pimp My System / Finally Updated My Kegerator
« on: May 24, 2016, 08:35:21 AM »
It took me seven years to get around to doing it, but I finally updated my kegerator. The old configuration suffered through five moves in six years and with every move I said, "I've got to convert this to an Irish coffin set up!" Now that we are in our forever house and have had the basement finished, the time had come.

This weekend I start constructing my new 3-tier, gravity-fed brew stand.  No more saw horses, cinder blocks and plywood.  Oh - and it will all be natural gas fed on my covered patio! :)

Events / Advanced Chemistry of Beer and Brewing Webinar
« on: March 23, 2011, 11:23:52 AM »
This was sent this to members of our homebrew club, P.A.L.E., but I thought it would be worth posting here. Wish I could watch this, but work gets in the way. Maybe some of you can enjoy this. Dr. Charles Bamforth will be giving his insight about the chemistry behind brewing beer followed by a Q&A session.

More info here.
