Again, I think it's a very nice design. I would suggest a cover (clear if possible) of some sort over your control panel, just in case of a boil over or other mishap.

cops used to stop by about once a month to check out my 600 watt metal halide that was growing my salad during the long vermont winters.

I get that cops don't get to pick and choose which laws they enforce, though District Attorneys do have some say in which cases they choose to prosecute. In Denver, there were issues after the City of Denver legalized small amounts of pot, but the city's prosecutors still chose to prosecute city residents under state law, instead of punting to the state's attorney's to make them either deal with it, or ignore it.

Even if you were growing pot, I'm sure you're not the scariest person in Vermont, and I'm also pretty sure those cops could've been doing something more productive with their time.

I don't care for pot myself, but it's pretty low on my list of "menacing things" somewhere between butterflies and nervous dogs.

You've obviously never been bitten by a butterfly.

Toasting them will completely change their flavor. How about a short microwave? I've never tried this myself.

Very nice. I like the diamond plate.

Just a suggestion, but get yourself some square, black plastic plugs for the tubing ends. I've seen them at Lowe's. They're cheap and will really add that finishing touch. They will protect you from sharps edges and corners, while keeping out bugs (dirt daubers) and such that like to crawl inside.

I personally can't see spending $14 a year just to store recipes. If you have any kind of high speed internet at home(dial-up excluded) you can log into your computer from remote locations to retrieve your recipes?
I spent over $14 for lunch today.  Seems like a bargain to me!

I bought 2 items off of the dollar menu and saved a lot of money. I still won't spend $14 to save beer recipes.

You caught my bad iPhone sentence grammar. My subjects that I had to write  two 500 word essay on were

Tell us about something you love and how would you tell someone about it?

And

Should people turning 18 be required to serve for 2 years I some sort of civil service?

I go knocked for things like using wrong words like their there they're and not putting in commas or missing periods.

Yeast and Fermentation / Re: Party Partigyle weekend
« on: May 16, 2012, 03:17:37 PM »

I want to do a Partigyle next week doing 2 mashes. A Wee Heavy (or 80 schilling) with the first runnings and a Two Penny with the sparge. I have a WLP005 second generation OG 1.061 cake from 5 gallons of ESB I racked today. I was thinking about putting the cake in my new 5 liter erlenmeyer with some 1.080 wort a couple days before brew day. The yeast seems clean and healthy and has produced 2 very fine ales. But what should I use for the lesser gravity Two Penny? Do a seperate 1.040 starter? Or is it OK to "downpitch"?

If you have a fresh cake from 1.061 wort, why do you need a starter anyway? My personal opinion is that you can use that cake for both beers. 1.061 isn't that high for a 1.040 beer and perfect for a 1.080 beer.

I have never understood why our elected officials have to be involved in bottle sizes. I can remember when 8oz. stubbies had to be approved by state government. How ridiculous is that?
I'll take a stab at why it might not be so ridiculous.  40s of malt liquor.

Okay, 1 large bottle, 8 stubbies, 4 regular size bottles, 3 pints. What difference does it make? It's still 40+ ounces of beer to be consumed.

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Utilization from spruce tips
« on: May 16, 2012, 11:41:11 AM »
Janis, if you make it, I'll try it!  BTW, I pretty much feel the same way about smoked beers that I do about spruce beers!  In spite of my BVIP recipe, I really prefer beer flavored beer.

I agree. I want the barbeque I'm eating with the beer delivering the smoky flavor, not the beer itself.
