I am not afraid to say I love Star Wars.  It was a huge part of my childhood.  One of my friends as a kid used to get one figure to play with and one to keep sealed.  I cant imagine how much the collection he had would be worth.  My parents got rid of most my Star Wars stuff, but somewhere buried in a stone tomb in their yard is the Han Solo bespin. He was one of my favorite figures and needed to be buried properly rather than thrown out.

I did my first BIAB this past weekend. I used something like this because we had it around the house. worked great. It is now part of my brewing equipment.

+ another on seeing the recipe.  It would be great to have a recipe from someone who has an idea of what the original tasted like, and from what I have read, the Professor has done a lot of research.   I have brewed the clone recipe from BYO and Im not sure how accurate it was.  I have done batches using 1056 and ECY old Newark ale and I really preferred ECY, which may become a regular for me. I have also brewed variations of it using Golden Promise and Munich, which I really liked too. Not sure how close any of them are to the original though.

I bought some feeler gauges, but they were covered in oil of unknown origin.

I bought feeler gauges that were covered in an oil too.  I used my credit card to adjust the rollers of my mill and tightened them until my credit card was destroyed.  This delayed needless purchases for me for a little while.  I left my mill at its original setting(which I never checked) until a pebble in my malt knocked it out of alignment. My mill is set to .039" using the feeler gauges, but I could have used something else and adjusted them until I was happy with what I was getting.

Now I know to avoid using ticks and possibly licorice root ;)

Let's not get carried away. I just said Lonestar ticks and I’m sure you can substitute other ticks if you have a recipe that calls for them.

Totally agree. I have been breaking out in hives when I eat beef, pork, and lamb for the past year sop I have to make sure I know what's in things now myself.

Not to derail this thread….I don’t post here too often but reading your post made we wonder if you are aware that a tick bite from a lonestar tick can cause you to develop an allergy to red meat. I know some people who went into anaphylactic shock and that’s how I found out about it.  It can happen hours after eating meat and it seems to happen out of nowhere.  It can get worse or you can "outgrow" it.  It doesnt happen with chicken or fish, only mammal meat. There has been more about it in the news recently, but I’m not sure how widespread it has been.  This scares the crap out of me. Winding up in the hospital hours after eating a delicious bacon cheeseburger because you couldnt breath. Just an fyi for you or anyone else that hasn’t heard.

My wife called me to ask if I knew Ballantine made an IPA. I didn’t realize it was out already. She picked up a couple of bombers for us(and some Dirt Wolf). She rocks.  I was excited to try it and it wasn’t a disappointment.  I never had the original so I cant really compare it to anything but for me it was a refreshing break from the overhopped dozen of ipas you can find at any store now.  It has a great balance of citrusy earthy goodness with a nice oak flavor.  Both of us really enjoyed it. I wound up picking up a six pack the other night and I will definitely buy it again. Better on the warmer side than the  colder. I’m looking forward to hearing some of the Ballantine IPA experts opinions on this one.  If this is close to what the original was like, Ballantine was way ahead of their time.

I had one pebble when I started milling about 6 years ago. And two within the last year probably from this sack of Golden Promise that seemed like it had a lot of junk in it.  I will say that I am blessed with getting the stuff that shouldn’t be there. Like seeds in seedless fruit, a pit in a slice of pie, hair in my food. Great things like that.

I hand crank because I am a glutton for punishment.  I’ve been thinking of hooking up my drill but what I want to know from the powered mill users is how bad is it when you have a pebble in your malt?   I have had two the past year that have stopped my rollers.  I would think it would be worse with a drill.

I wasn't saying it's cheating and no one should use extract, just that after so many AG batches it sort of feels like cheating to not have to monitor much.
Sorry, I’m not trying to infer that using extract was cheating was the meaning to your original post. My response was geared more towards brickpig’s, which I may have been reading into.  Probably why I dont post too often :)
and I would be lost on a brewday that goes smoothly and I’m not constantly doing something.

I still fly sparge and can squeeze in a half day brew day.  You have to be organized and do things to shave time. I prepare the night before, mill grain while heating strike water, heat sparge water while mashing, heat the runoff while I am sparging, clean out mash tun and clean and sanitize fermenter while boiling and chilling. It is possible. And I don’t think using extract is cheating. I have been thinking of brewing extract batches to get more brewing in. There are a lot more/better extract options available now than when i started brewing.

We have black countertops and white cabinets from the previous owner. Worst color choices unless you dont use your kitchen.  The white shows everything and will stain so brew day cleanup takes extra effort and the white spots from where i have dripped undiluted starsan really pop out on the countertops...and permanent marker doesnt last as long it should.

I used this yeast for my Christmas ale this past year. I made a 2L starter same method, and there was very little activity if any.  I felt like I had to swirl it more than most starters.  I pitched it and it worked the way major described.   I will say that I bottle conditioned my beer to give out as gifts and it took a long time to carbonate.  For what its worth my Christmas ale was a gingerbread beer and this yeast worked well with it.  The residual sweetness and fruity taste complimented the spices.  Not sure what you’re brewing but I would check the gravity and if it is still good I would use it.

I didn’t have one explode, but I had an infection that pushed out the top and bottom and shot beer out the seal where the tap is. I liked using them, but I found them hard to clean around where the tap is unless you did it immediately and you have to be careful not to scratch the interior coating. Immediately and careful are not always my friends.

I dont know about all of other brands, but Hofbrauhouse minkegs are the same kegs. They cost about the same as new ones but they are filled with beer.  You just need to remove the vent that is in the bunghole. I got to say bunghole.

I bought the Emeril cookware for my mom years ago when she desperately needed new pots and pans. It was a really good buy for the price. She still has them and they are as good as when I bought them. I think they are made by Allclad.

We were gifted an Allclad set for our wedding and I like them a lot. They heat even, are easy to clean, and are durable.  I dont use non-stick so the easy to clean stainless steel and cast iron is all I use.  I would also recommend only buying what you think you need and I would look in Marshalls, homegoods, TJmaxx or whatever store has kitchenware because they do sell “name brands for less”.  Marshalls by me lately has had a lot of Lodge, Le Creuset, Calaphon stuff for about 50% off plus there’s usually a bunch of other kitchen gadgets that you can wonder how to incorporate into your brewing.
