Beer Recipes / Re: Inspired By (clone) Names

Oh, and my English beers are always named something cheeky. My favorite name is 'The Dog's Danglers', it's pretty epic when someone has to read that at an awards ceremony.

My Belgian Golden Strong's name is 'Devil's in the Details'.

A perfect example of the real value of AHA membership.

Amen!

Several clubs in Kansas are banding together to push for homebrew law changes in the State. Please, we need your help to contact your representative to gain their support for House Substitute for HB2223. We tried to push this bill through last year and will push harder this year.

This is the BA press release for the 2014 Bill: http://www.craftbeer.com/action-alerts/attention-kansas-homebrewers-2

Things we cannot do in Kansas:
  • We cannot bring homebrew outside of our homes. This means no club meetings, no tastings, etc.
  • We cannot serve our homebrew to people outside of our "immediate family".
  • We cannot host homebrew competitions.

We are aiming to get these things changed. Why? Because we love homebrew and want to share it!

A lot of you know that I am getting married at the end of this year. You know what's illegal for me? I cannot serve my fiance the beer that we brew together as we do not meet the legal definition of 'immediate family'. How ludicrous is that? We brew together, but I cannot serve it to him. Ridiculous.

We also cannot host competitions. This is not a huge issue for my club, as we reside on the State Line and can jump to Missouri, but it is a huge deal for all of the homebrewers in the middle of the state who just want a little feedback on their beers.

I urge those of you who are Kansas residents to contact your Representative and help change the laws!

Ingredients / Re: If you had to choose only 3...

1) Warminster MO
2) Best Pilsner
3) Briess 2 row

Gotta admit that Briess wouldn't make my top 20!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Their Munich malt is a joke. Tastes like 2-row.

Considering I now have 5 bulk base grains in stock, I'll have to pick my favorites.

Best Malz Pils
Best Malz Munich I
Crisp Maris Otter

I also keep Castle Belgian Pilsner and Rahr 2 row on hand. I may pick up a sack of TF Golden Promise as well. You know, for variety's sake.

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Shocked at Price! really?

Oh that's nothing. A local craft distiller here is selling their 10 gallon barrels for $200 and 30s for $260. $150 is a steal.

Don't feel bad about a Sporty. I have a 92 Suzuki GS500E that my uncle calls a "Hon-derrr". I pretend it is a term of endearment. Never mind that I rebuilt the engine and tranny and repainted the entire bike... still ain't good enough! ::)

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Interesting Judging Phenomenon

One time I entered a Munich helles as itself and a blonde ale, the helles took BOS and the blonde took honorable mention in BOS.  The judges I talked to swore they tasted different.  I bottled them at the exact same time, same keg, etc.
A friend did that, entered the same beer as a Dortmunder and German Pils, both medaled.

I do that with my lambics. It's always a crap-shoot as to if the lambic entered as a lambic will win or the lambic entered as a gueuze will win. I haven't found a pattern yet, and I don't think I will. I will be entering a different "trick beer" into the KCBM XXXI Competition, same beer, two categories - just to see what happens.  :)

What happens? In my world: we bought a house, filled the garage with a Brew Magic and a huge stainless sink, filled the freezer with hops, filled the basement with supplies, keezers, fermentation chambers, and grains, and generally encourage each other to brew our little hearts out.

There's no system of checks and balances. It's getting out of hand!  :o

But back to Jonathan... I quite like those a lot. She does great work.

Ha! out of hand? or Perfect?

I am uber jealous by the way. pretty sure she would support it but the square footage and the bank balance do not... for now ;D

Oh, I'm not complaining. Ever since we got out of our apartments and into this house, it has certainly exploded. Aaaaannnd we're both enablers. :) The only time he told me I couldn't get something was when I told him I was thinking about getting BeerSmith 2.0 and he told me no - because it was one of my Christmas presents. Ha, good one Myles, good one.  ;D

Grain storage just went up to 6 bins from 4. One of these days I should take pictures and put it all on Pimp my System, although it'll be more like Pimp my House. Yikes.

ORIGINAL TOPIC: Does she have plans to do a malt one as well? It'd be neat to have two of those side by side in the bar that we're building in the basement.
