The Pub / Things that are better with alcohol...
« on: July 07, 2010, 07:19:07 PM »
Just trying to keep things on topic; I saw some divergence elsewhere and thought to make a thread about it.

I'll start off nice and easy:   South Park : The movie

The Pub / THE ALCOHOL CHANNEL
« on: July 07, 2010, 09:14:19 AM »
How is it we have "the golf channel" , "shopping network", "court tv" but there's no alcohol programming? Like there's a lack of interest? In the whole spectrum of alcohol - from the various types, to the various uses, the making, drinking, serving. I definitely think there's enough material there to warrant it's own channel.

All Things Food / Bioengineered Salmon?
« on: June 29, 2010, 11:23:22 AM »
The timing seems right...

The FDA currently is reviewing the safety of AquaBounty's biotech salmon, called AquAdvantage, that grows faster than natural Atlantic salmon. The biotech fish could reach the market in about a year and would be the first bioengineered animal available for human consumption once it gains approval.

Goes with... budweiser? (I figure something i don't want to eat, with something i don't want to drink)

General Homebrew Discussion / Where's the money?
« on: June 29, 2010, 09:49:41 AM »
I guess  maybe I know the answer but I'd like it discussed anyway.Where would you say the majority of a LHBS' money comes from? There's the McDonald's route - make a little money on a billion sales, but I don't think most places are that busy. If you go the bistro pricing route your customer base will be small. So, is the money in the add-ons and the grain is just the enticement to get the customer in the door?

The Pub / Royalty
« on: June 26, 2010, 06:10:19 AM »
It's time has come and gone; why do these people carry any importance today? Why is prince harry important enough to take up air time on the news? He can't raise taxes, start a war, or have anyone beheaded - what kind of king would that be?

Kegging and Bottling / jockey box question...
« on: June 23, 2010, 10:38:40 AM »
Just got a box off Ebay, looks great, but wondering if a stepdown from maybe 3/8" to 1/4" tubing is normal? It's somewhere in the neighborhood of 90' of stainless coil. Maybe the last 20' is tiny - anyone know why? Also assuming 15psi normal serving pressure how much do you ramp up PSI for the jockey box?

The Pub / Combo BrewCart
« on: June 20, 2010, 07:28:33 PM »
What besides basic beer brewing functions can be added on to a brewcart without making it over 10 feet tall or 20 feet long?

eg., BBQ/Brutus10 combo

Equipment and Software / Washer/Dryer Parts?
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:52:03 PM »
So, say you have access to a washer/dryer pair that no one needs. Any picks on which motor to scavenge for powering a mill?

The Pub / Post count went down?
« on: June 02, 2010, 09:52:08 AM »
I'd bet a nickel I was at 599 yesterday. Other than curiosity I suppose it doesn't matter. Were threads deleted for political/racial/sexual content recently? Or maybe some old threads purged?

All Things Food / AMERICAN cuisine
« on: May 26, 2010, 11:10:01 AM »
So you go into an AMERICAN restaurant and look at the menu... what would be on it? I mean, if it was going to be authentic, and nobody can call BULL$#!T on your menu - what would be on  there? For example - Spaghetti and meatballs, no matter how good they are - Fails. (Italian)

I think a pulled pork bbq sammich dripping in sauce, topped with coleslaw, on a big ol bun is pretty American though.

What else?

General Homebrew Discussion / Employment rate for Brewers
« on: April 27, 2010, 06:38:35 AM »
So, supposing one were to complete the coursework and get the paper saying you know how to brew. How likely are you to actually find a job? Starting your own place seems popular and doesn't require the schooling, but requires $$$. Just wondering if industry specifics are available as they are for other areas of work.

All Things Food / Smokers
« on: February 21, 2010, 09:11:06 AM »
I'm probably late to the party with this - but check out this thread
http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23436
Gonna build one - cheap,  easy, 16 hour unattended burns. Scouring craigslist for a weber kettle now...(need the lid),

Yeast and Fermentation / Fermentation Temp Control
« on: February 06, 2010, 11:18:12 AM »
Is temp control important to you?
A couple guys in another thread have said this is the single most important factor to making good beer. Before moving to AG, or buying any other equipment to move beyond Mr.Beer - temp control is number one. Why is it discussed so little then?

Is it just not blingy enough to discuss, or is it boring, or do the lhbs' not make enough selling 1 johnson controller for your craigslist chest freezer?

All Things Food / SPAM!
« on: January 22, 2010, 07:02:48 AM »
I think the spam thread disappeared last night.
There are however uses for SPAM.
You're just gonna have to fess up and admit you eat it sometimes.
I'll post a SPAM party dip later; we don't tell anyone what it is until they say
"Hey this is good what's in it?" :)
