General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Conference pointers
« on: February 01, 2013, 12:18:52 PM »
Do the full thing.

Read the first time attendee guide.

Get prepared for lots of beer, and lots of fun.

You won't regret it.

The site says 1pm MST for the conference. 9am EST for the hotel.

In Seattle, brewing in the rain is just called brewing...

I was thinking the same thing.

It made it through the Senate tourism committee as well, so it is on the floor in both houses.

Per Raise Your Pints, the Homebrew Legalization bill has passed the house ways and means committee, and is going to the floor for a vote soon. Good Luck MS, join the rest of the Homebrewing world. We are all rooting for you.

Leos, I need to visit your taproom soon. Need to discuss lager brewing!

Me too. But that is just to drink your beer.

Me too! For both! :)

Give yourself a day or two more and stop by Tribute and a trip to Oso, Redeye and
Bull Falls.

My rough plan is to hit up both Lazy Monk and Tribute when I go out to MN to visit my wife's family.

Perhaps an AHA membership as a prerequisite to entering the competition could be adopted rather than the partial open concept. There must be some sort of solution to this problem that a little more brainstorming could solve.

An AHA membership is required to enter the competition. The only part that is partially open is that Members can buy a guest pass (usually used for SO) to the conference.

If you are kegging, its not that big of a deal. Kegs can take a lot of pressure.

Relax, your beer is doing fine, 10 days is actually a bit late for fermentation to be done. I would take a gravity reading now, so you can compare it to the gravity at the end of dry hopping. If they are the same, you can go straight into the bottle.

we can't risk a situation where we have the 2nd round judging lasting for more than one day or even for going late on a single day.

Why not? Why not have the second round go over a couple of weekends like any amount of local competitions do sometimes?

Because most of the judges at the Second round are from out of town, and are giving up their first day of NHC to judge beers. We can't force them to give up the entire weekend, and most of them aren't going to show up over a week in advance to judge.

I think Sean's point (and it certainly is my point) is that if it tastes like an American IPA (which it most likely will, because Irish ale yeast doesn't have a lot of flavor forward character) enter it there. If it tastes like something else (American Amber?) enter it there.

Hey Red!  I'll bottle one for you and bring it to NHC!
Dave

This will not do.

You must bring at least enough bottles that the rest of the AHA forum members at NHC can try it. That is fair. 8)

All Grain Brewing / Re: Critique this Pale Mild Recipe?
« on: January 27, 2013, 12:32:39 AM »
I think its fine, but if I were to do it...

I would up it to 7lb MO, .5 lb Victory
or 8lb MO

and mash at 162.

I have found that I like my beers mashed higher, with less crystal. I find that I get the body that I like in session beers, but not the sweetness that I get out of crystal (and that I find objectionable over 5% of Grain Bill).
