Cheers Thomas. I will raise one this evening.

The Pub / Re: I hate shoveling snow!

The storm that hit us this week took me about 4 hours to clear my driveway. And that was with a snowblower. The drifts were chest-deep. I couldn't see my 5-year old behind them. It's kind of funny around here... The first couple snowfalls of the year, I enjoy breaking out the snowblower even when it's only a couple inches. Then once we hit January and February, unless it's over 3-4 inches of snow, nobody bothers anymore. "Eh, the cars will compact it enough and it will melt eventually.

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: What's Brewing This Weekend - 2/4 Edition

No brewing... Kegging a Cal Common and an Amber Ale though.

I keep an APA and a saison on tap year-round. Other than that, I'll always brew a big xmas beer around May/June, with a different recipe every year. The rest... well, it's pretty random.

I had my wife pick up a sixer last night when she went to Walgreens to pick up a prescription. For 3 bucks, I have to say it's not bad. It kind of reminds me of a cleaner version of Old Style circa 1988.

Can you give us your recipe too? It is possible that it could just be done, depending on the fermentability of the wort and/or the attenuation capability of the yeast.

Holden Beach, NC is my favorite spot...  It's about 30-40 minutes south along the coast from Wilmington. Lots of rentals available, but book soon as the best and biggest ones go quick. I can't say I remember any breweries, but I'm usually there with all our kids, so don't get much of a chance to look. A great bar with wonderful seafood is Dock Street Oyster Bar in Wilmington. Check them out while you're there...

No brewing. I need to finish framing my basement, and more importantly, the bar area. I did get a starter going today for a brew day Monday or Tuesday though. I'm planning an old ale.

Kegging and Bottling / Re: Not Pretty, but mine
« on: January 26, 2011, 09:24:35 PM »
I am certainly not going to post pictures of mine.  I have 8 c-kegs all crammed into a chest freezer, each one with a picnic tap attached.  Not all pretty like yours is.
The sheer number of kegs makes it pretty.

Kegging and Bottling / Re: Bottle sterilization question
« on: January 26, 2011, 03:27:34 PM »
Agree with hokerer, just rinse the bottles immediately and they should not any more cleaning. Just sanitize them. I just run the bottles through my home dishwasher on its sanitizing rinse cycle, no detergent or rinse aid. I have not had any problems with this method.
I simply prepped the last two batches' bottles with the "sanitize" feature my dishwasher has and crossed my fingers. No signs of infection though I cannot vouch for long term.  ;D

This is what I do as well. Then bottle on the open door of the dishwasher to catch the inevitable mess I make.

Very well done. Thank you for putting that together.

The Pub / Re: Found the cure for a cough
« on: January 25, 2011, 12:49:21 AM »
You got a bad cough? I have the 100% guaranteed cure for a persistent cough.

10 Ex-Lax in the morning.

You'll be to afraid to cough ever again.
Just be sure to refill the magazine rack in the bathroom before you do this. And invest in the Costco-sized toilet paper.

Good luck! I'll bet that will be the best stout you've ever had.
