« on: April 21, 2010, 11:18:31 AM »
i already tend to let my beer lager for so long, how can i wait those extra 30 minutes?

i have tended to boil for just over an hour then i get bored and finish with my late addition hops.  probably around 75 minutes total

i put frank's red hot in almost everything as well.  like it much better than tabasco. never brewed with it so now how about a recipe with

munich malt
starch packing peanuts (i am determined to try them sometime)
and frank's red hot.

maybe some day but

if you don't hear from me.  it didn't work.

i have always liked ginger best

raquel in 2000bc over jane in barbarella

i like all three from petticoat junction in the water tank (and the dog on the right is man's best friend)

i can't get past the political views of the golden girls.  though betty does love dogs.

did i mention maryanne?

nearly every book has a good starter process. but fundamentally you can use some dme and make a weak wort.   put it in an erlynmeyer, glass milk jug, mason jar... and add yeast. stir a lot or put on a stir plate.  kind of like making a small batch of beer.  i tend to save some of the last runoff at low sg.  freeze, then when i want to use it i boil it again, add leftover yeast and so on.

Yeast and Fermentation / Re: Using the fermenter for the starter

also may make it a bit hard to save some of the starter for propagating the yeast for future use.

this may not be real good either:  noticed somebody nocked the airlock off my fermenter.  fortunately i check temperature everyday and it could not have been too long.  hopefully not enough O2 to skunk the beer.

I still like to do everything with a pencil and paper.  i then try to type up the notes because my penmanship suffers with each batch 8)

i am still toying with the idea but i am already on second career. from submarine officer to physician.  i am still paying a lot of student loans for myself and have two in college (go buckeyes) and one yet in high school.  maybe soon.....

probably half dozen off a single starter. but i am still a fan of propagating/culturing part of what you buy so you will always have a first or second generation to use as a starter.  similar, if not easier, than culturing from sediment of a production beer.
