Beer Travel / East coast must have beers (CT, specifically)
« on: August 25, 2012, 07:39:04 AM »
Hi All!

I'm heading to CT in December for a wedding. I've looked and looked and looked and am having a hard time finding much of anything out here. I know there's probably plenty of gems which are unknown to the common traveler. The bachelorette party is at City Steam.

This is a 2 part question: Are there any beer bars/stores/breweries that I should make it a point to hit?
Also, being from the west coast, there's a lot of beer that isn't distributed out here. I know, for example, that we can't get yuengling or founders (both of which I plan to try.) What beers/breweries make your 'must have' list (from the east coast) and what should I look out for?

I should add: it's unlikely that I'll have a car but would pay a somewhat decent cab fare, in consideration of what may be out there.
I'm staying downtown.

Thanks in advance!

There aren't member sessions available for the times/days you stated. They don't differentiate if you're a member or not for those sessions. As far as I know, there is only a 'member's only' session Saturday afternoon.  And the 'member's entrance' is the front door with a mile long line around the building. There's a possibility they could have changes it, but I find that unlikely.

Sorry I can't provide a definitive answer but I hope this little bit helps :)

I still see this being and issue, as there are 34k members. (according to numbers from AHA and BA)

If you think about it, this is the superbowl of beer.

The same thing happens during other large events--scalpers flock.

Not quite sure what they could do to fight it.

It appears as if 175 of these tickets are already listed on Stubhub, starting at $149/each...no member's session, though.

hmm, has the AHA really grown that much in the past year that it now sells out in less than 2 hours? I had no idea. I was thinking a ton of tickets got through to non-members. I guess we will really see come gabf time when/if people start scalping on craig's list.

From my understanding, Between the AHA and BA, there are 34k members. So, yes, there are that many.

When I purchased with the incentive of membership 3 years ago, it was the same price to get a membership and tickets vs. purchasing GA tickets. It's kind of a no-brainer that you would sign up.

"Short lived?"  It looks like it was long enough to sell out the tickets.

We would have enough problems with the amount of MEMBERS trying to get tickets, let alone the free-for-all that occurred.

I would like to see member numbers verified for the purchases. It's going to cause some considerable work for someone down at the AHA, though. Not sure how they would even do it.

First-time GABF hopeful here... looks like I can't access tickets for the members-only session. Does it normally sell out this fast? Ticketmaster couldn't tell me if they were gone or not.
It has been selling out progressively faster for the past few years but yes, the GABF website is saying that both farm-to-tables and the members session are sold out.

Re:new members
I stick to my local forums (AZ society of Homebrewers) but came in to get info on the tickets. I have been a member for 3 or 4 years now and just signed for the lifetime membership. :)
