The Pub / Re: Tailoring... serger or sewing machine?
« on: February 02, 2014, 10:05:54 PM »
I learned to sew on an old singer when I was a kid, I remember them being able to do most things, especially simple hems and tailoring.  I also used an old foot powered one.

Yeast and Fermentation / Re: 7 months in on a Flanders Red with Roeselare

I have read that you should try to use cherries with pits if possible, the pits have an almond like flavor to them.  if you cant find them with pits you can add a spice called mahlab, its made from cherry pits and is available from middle eastern grocers.  sorry, don't have any answers to your specific questions.

if you like peat try Ardmore, I think its a blend but is pretty good and only $23.  if you want to go higher end peat try Ardbeg, awesome.

Yeast and Fermentation / Re: Another thread about plastic buckets (sorry)
« on: December 03, 2013, 07:48:32 PM »
I currently use one 13 gal brew cube or two 6.5 gal buckets.  the brew cube is good but can difficult to clean because of all the uneven surfaces and crevices in the lid.  I have also used a sanke keg many times and have a 5 gal crockware jug I plan to use for souring.  what ever works.

maybe all of this already exists and I don't know how to access it.  I would like to create my own forum follow page.  for example there are post I would like to continuously follow for new posts and would like to see comments on some posts I have made/created.  I know some of this is already available just not instantly accessible when I log in.

« on: August 15, 2013, 07:12:45 PM »
a pre chiller with an pump to recirculate cold water hooked up with a counterflow chiller works very well.  both pre chiller and cfc can be made easily.  another option if you have water that needs to be added after boil to bring up to proper volume is to add ice instead of water to empty primary fermenter and dump wort into that.  I never had an infection in 100 or so batches with the ice technique.

Hop Growing / Re: Hop Seeds?

just passing on info I read on another post...some hops can be hermaphroditic.  those "seeds" are male hops.  the plant may be stressed from under watering or under nutrient.
