Yeast and Fermentation / Re: Going from Cider to Beer

Making a starter would be cheap insurance in case your yeast isn't up to the task or your cake could impart cider flavors in your beer.

Very good idea my friend!
Here is how I do it... No body hates keg cleaning as much as me... Don't know if we can imbed youhoo videos here yet...

Where'd you pick up that nifty hose to ball lock connector?

I believe that’s a simple Quick Disconnect fitting, he mentions holding it on the post as it fit's the diameter, but doesn't lock. I do something similar, but have it fitted to a standard ball-lock, plus 40 psi is crazy cool pressure, I wish I had that...

Is it like the one here?  http://www.mcmaster.com/#7470t25/=4jqybl

Kegging and Bottling / Re: Seconday and Dispensing in Same Keg

I've done this quite a bit. Just expect the first few pints to have some yeast sediment, but once that's clear you should be good to go as long as it doesn't get shaken up for some reason.

If you can find it, Corner Creek is well worth a look. It's the one that looks like a wine bottle.

All Grain Brewing / Re: Malt conditioning rocks!
« on: November 11, 2009, 02:36:56 PM »
I tried malt conditioning on my last brew and did notice a favorable difference. The grain husks were kept much more intact and I didn't end up with the think layer of sludge on top of the mash during sparging that I normally get. The runoff went really well. I'm going to stick with it for the next few brews and see if the results are the same across different grain bills.

Other Fermentables / Re: Fermcap in Wine Fermentation?

One less thing to worry about means I'm one step closer to going down this road and finally putting my 6 gal glass carboys to use.
Thanks!

Other Fermentables / Fermcap in Wine Fermentation?
« on: November 09, 2009, 04:59:22 PM »
I use Fermcap in all my beer fermentations to keep the krausen under control. I want to try my first wine and wonder if this is a concern in wine fermentations and if it's ok to use Fermcap here too?

Ingredients / Brewing With Rosemary?
« on: November 07, 2009, 06:19:12 PM »
I have an enormous rosemary bush in my backyard and have been wondering over the last many months if I could incorporate it into one of my beers. Has anyone tried this with good results?

If so, what style would it best pair with?

Yeast and Fermentation / Re: Yeast and Zip Lock baggies
« on: November 05, 2009, 10:02:19 AM »
What's the longest you've left yeast in the baggies?

I think I'll try this, I'm a bit tired of working with my mason jars at this point.

The 50-something quart Coleman Xtreme here as well with the braid configuration straight from Denny's site. I bought all the materials for a fancy drain valve, but since I couldn't find SS washers, I went with the drilled stopper method and never looked back.
