If I could only use two fuggles and ekg.

Or cascade and chinook.

But that's just because  I prefer English styles.

Others i like a lot.

Commercial Beer Reviews / Re: Rock Bottom firkin servings

The rock bottom I go to regularly has a beer on cask. It is a popular option and is a properly tended cask. The corporate recipes are decent but the one offs are usually very good.

That's what I figured it was too. I was able to turn in used vials for free yeast though. 10 used vials for 1 new.

Another one for me is when the bagger at a grocery store or target uses way more bags than necessary.  Like only one item per bag. Bagging the gallon of milk.  Etc. I think this excessive use of bags is what led so many cities around here to put in plastic bag bans in place.  If they used a reasonable number of bags we wouldn't have needed the ban.

The idea that rarity/scarcity makes it a good beer.  Standing in line for hours to get a taste of some rare beer. Lots of them are very good but just because production is small doesn't make it better.

I have used zest often. Just interested in exploring another idea.

Ingredients / Lime puree or other citrus puree?
« on: March 24, 2014, 09:34:58 PM »
Just finished reading the citrus article in zymurgy. They discuss using citrus purees in secondary.  Interested to know if anyone has used them? I heard that fermented orange juice is quite foul and have only used zest and peel (zest and pith). Thoughts?

Also the stone "stochasticity" was not good.  I think they didn't think it was good so made up the second label to sell it

I would say I am close to 50/50 on homebrew vs commercial.  Between meals out,  New releases from firestone,  ballast point and Sierra Nevada.  And trying beers for style comparison I end up drinking a lot of commercial beer.
