Commercial Beer Reviews / Re: Shiner Frost
« on: February 26, 2010, 09:02:59 PM »
........Really only prefer the Shiner cans if available. Sometimes the bottles are so sour I can't hardly drink more than one. I haven't got this from the cans.  A visit to the brewery is in the works. Only an hour away.

This the second time I've heard of someone preferring "shiner in the can".  Years ago, a friend of mine was in a bar in Texas and one of the locals kept going on and on about how he was in the right bar because they got "shiner in a can".  It's the only beer I remember hearing it's better in the can and now I've heard it twice.

Oops- am I allowed to say "it's better in the can"?   :o

My Father-in-Law is a wise man of few words. Some of my favorites:

When his kids would leave the house, he always said "don't do anything dumb"

"The more friends ya got, the more trouble ya got"

When describing my wife's older sister, who's had a few brief marriages "she just meets a guy and marries him"

He kills me

What time's that party?  I was just at the HUB and had the black IPA as well as the IPA.  The black was just OK, but I really liked the "conventional" IPA.  Should I bring anything, beside my mug, to the party?

My brother inlaw`s coffee mug is disgusting to even look at and yet he just gives it a rinsing with water & calls it good to go. ugh!

Sounds familiar. Hit that sucker w/ OxyClean and then see what he thinks when the black corn flakes keep comin and comin.

Maybe a sanitizer chaser.  I usually bleach (Clorox Clean Up) my percolator when the color gets too dark.

I hadn't considered the sanitizer chaser.  I think its better to just clean the thermos rather than drinking a shot of sanitizer after every cup of coffee     ;)

The Pub / OxyClean your thermos
« on: February 20, 2010, 11:20:58 AM »
I started noticing a weird film in my coffee cups when the coffee was poured from my thermos.  Its been several years since I really gave it a good cleaning.  I decided to clean w/ OxyClean.  Oh my, what a disgusting mess.  After an overnight soaking, the Oxy water looked like cola and the black flakes just kept comin- rinse after rinse.  The "flakes" looked like black, soggy corn flakes.  I had to OxyClean a second time as the flakes just kept comin.  After the second soak (24 hrs this time), it just took a few rinsings and the inside is spotless.

I know many of you will come on a tell how spotless you keep your thermos, but I'm betting some of you will find the same disgusting mess that I did.  Soooooo- hit your thermos w/ OxyClean and tell us how it went.

This bacon craze is really taking off- at least in St Louis.  I recently went there to visit family.  We took a whirlwind tour of 4 microbreweries and two of them prominently featured bacon as an appetizer.  I'd never seen that before, but it sure was popular.

Weez- if you ever go to St Louis, make it on your diet off day and go check out the brewery in the old Lemp stable bldg.  Amazing old bldg, fresh brews and baskets of bacon.  I wish I woulda thought of that

I bought a 25 gal megapot from Austin.  Also got a 165 qt cooler from Costco.  I already have a Bayou sumthinerother burner that will do the trick.

Interesting thing about the group here. Seems like everyone is content with what they have, mostly. Very little talk of going bigger better faster... except for that Cap guy and that clown guy. :D

I'm upgrading from 10 to 20 gal.  I just don't talk about it

I think the thing that sets The Stooges apart is that their humor is timeless.  They're still funny after 50-60 years, they'll still be funny in a hundred years.  Very few can say that.

You could also do an overnight mash and eliminate some of the cooling/ reheating and moving stuff around.
