General Homebrew Discussion / Homebrew Deals Blog...
« on: December 17, 2010, 03:00:44 PM »
I recently started up a homebrew deals blog...

Check it out- http://homebrewfinds.blogspot.com

Send me a pm with comments or if you find a good deal that should go on the blog.

I use a reptile heating mat.  These are made to run continuosly.  I think mine is only 9W, so it's no space heater.

When I want to warm up my chest freezer I toss it in.  I haven't measured it, but I would say it raises the temp a degree or two per hour.  For my ambient conditions (basement usually in winter only) this produces enough heat to keep fermentation where I want it, but doesn't produce so much that the freezer needs to kick on a bunch.

Here we go.... Did you guys hear the NHC was shaking hands with the troops this past weekened??   :)

It was off limits no matter what political party is involved.  It had the potential to degenerate quickly and it did.  The mod who removed it was absolutely correct in doing that.

I'll agree about the degeneration of the thread.  I would have rather seen this locked though.  I think the mod would say the same thing.  He sent me a pm and said the he mistakenly hit delete instead of lock.

I really dislike bikes.  I fell off the first 5 times I tried to ride one.

Just messin' with ya!  Give the format a chance.  The RSS feed is especially nice.

Really dislike the forum. I find the entire website difficult to navigate (It took 3 logins to get here).

Questions about the forum? / Why was the "I'm Sorry" thread deleted??
« on: August 13, 2010, 06:49:09 AM »
I'd like to know why BrewBall's "I'm sorry" thread was deleted.

I also asked a question in that threat that I'm genuinely interested in knowing the answer to.  What constitutes political discussion?  Is it only when a republican is mentioned??

I'm all for having boundaries but I think that they should be enforced uniformly.

Also just deleting threads that have dessention in them doesn't seem right.

TT is behind the times technologically.

If you wanted to continue this you could do it much more easily with something similar to Yahoo or Google groups.

People would submit questions, comments, etc and the person who formats TT could go through and approve or deny posts.  A Daily digest could be sent to all subscribers.  This would still take some time, but would be a lot more efficient than formatting all of the emails manually.

Having said that, I think forums are a better means of communication.

It also frees up time for the person who maintains this.  Maybe they are spending it on... expanding the pub discount program.  That's a form of communication I can get behind.

+1

I use the ultraship 55 and it works great and it was a great deal.

I use a similar scale for hops and salt additions.  Something with a 1/10th of a gram accuracy.

A lot of brewers (including myself) bought the Ultraship 55 a couple of years ago. Quite a bargain, and it'll do what you want . . Pounds, ounces, grams . . . Mine works perfectly.

That is a great find.
For hops, water salts or gelatine I use this one:
