All Grain Brewing / How long will my grain last?
« on: August 26, 2010, 12:45:57 PM »
Well, look who just finally posted in a beer thread again! And, not because i'm brewing.  :'(  Appears I won't be able to brew for a while now. I had all the grain for 12 gal of wheat. I bought it back in Ohio, around April or so. It's been kept, unmilled, in a grain sack, inside my mash tun. been sitting in a storage shed for a couple months in Ohio, now it's in a shed here in Idaho. Will it still be good for a while, or should I count it a loss? Way thongs are going, I won't be brewing for awhile. The movers left my kegs, and CO2 bottles in Ohio. So, I have no way to keg, and no place rally to store bottles, even I did buy some.

The Pub / It appears I'm not brewing for a while.

The movers finally made it here to Idaho with our stuff. What a fiasco. It's a long story, but the Cliff Notes are this.....They were 2 days late picking up in Ohio, and 2 days late dropping off in Idaho. We were quoted 2200$, And ended up paying 5800$. All of our boxes look like accordions, and a lot of stuff is broke. Washer and dryer, that are rather new, and were very expensive are scratched and dented, and the control panel was knocked off the washer. My computer  / work desk is smashed beyond use, and our furniture is cover in chips, scratches and gouges. My mattress was strapped to the back of the trailer, and we ended up with a few things that do not belong to us.
I found out from the dude I worked for in the sheet metal shop, where our stuff was stored, that they were not going to take 90% of my stuff, as there was no room on the truck for it. He insisted they take it, so, to make room, he wathched them take others peoples boxes off the truck, and THROW THEM IN THE DUMPSTER!!!!!! We were also charged 800$ for packing, and materials, when we had everything packed.
They were not able to get all our stuff on the truck, so they left our 16', 1000 gallon swimming pool, a coffe table, about half a dozen boxes, goes....all 5 of my cornies, my 15.5 gal keg, both my propane tanks, and both my CO2 tanks.
You can all bet, there is hell to be paid. THey will experience the wrath of the Weaze!!!  >:(

This is it after a few Boston Lagers, with some help from a buddy. The ole' Rocky Mountain lift..... It went from me not even needing a step to get in, to 27" to the floor.

I just have to say I've really been into James Patterson, lately. The Alex Cross series, namely. What a great series! Been having a lot of time to read lately, in airports, and on planes. Right now I am in the middle of Four Blind Mice. I think the best so far though, is Double Cross.
I should also mention Nelson DeMille. Anything of his with John Corey is great! The Lion's Game was one of the best books I've read yet (right up there with any of them in The Lonesome Dove series) The Lion just came out, and I can't wait to read it.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled beer forum.

Go ahead and laugh at me, but so far, I love it! Not much work for sheet metal / HVAC in Idaho. So, I'm working from home. i'm taking the 1-800 calls for infomercials. Pretty much anything you see on t.v., I take orders for. It's a pretty sweet gig. I can work any hours I want, as much or as little. The pay is actually pretty good. It's the same as anything I would get doing HVAC / or sheet metal in Idaho. A little less than I was making in Ohio, but our bill were cut by more than half when we moved. And for the best part......i'm working right now, and not even wearing pants!!!
My sister also does it, and I know some others who have been doing it for years. Good stuff, and the flexible schedule is AWESOME!!

Still don't have my brewery in Idaho. But, I'm back in Ohio for a bit, and was looking around the sheet metal shop today, where all our stuff is stored, and it hit me...............BREW YOU BUTTHOLE!!!!! I got all my stuff there, including everything for 12 gal of wheat. So, Sunday, I'm headed to the shop with some buddies for a day of brewing and drinking. I so excited I could puke!!! Random senseless, pantless pic to come.  ;D

Feel in love with Elijah Gray bourbon, while camping in the mountains in Idaho. So, here I am in Ohio, and walk into the state store. I looked everywhere for this lovely fire nectar from the gods, but found none. So, I ask the dude, and he looks at me like I have 2 heads. Never heard of the stuff! Man am I bummed. So, I settled on a bottle of Red Stag, and (flame suit on) LOVE IT!!
Look for random, meaningless post in the next few hours........ ;D

Been a pretty good week out west so far. Mancave is really coming together. I'm spending the first night in it tonight. Tomorrow, I will get the wiring ran from the breaker box in the house, to my sub-panel in the mancave, along with the cable, phone, and network wires.
My dream job of brewing is a no go. They just don't need any help right now. But, I did score a pretty sweet gig. I'll be working from home, my own schedule. As much or as little as I want. Pay is pretty good, and the work is okay too. Imagine, I'll get to work pantless every day!!!  Holly is also working from home, part time. Our bills have been drastically reduced out here, so we are both going to part-time it, and just enjoy life. Looks like I'll be flying back out to Ohio this weekend. I'll spend a couple weeks there, then back to Idaho on the 29th. All that just to get back on a plane, and fly right back out on the 4th. But, I'm having fun, and enjoying life..........finally. Now, I just need to get my brewery here. Man do I miss it. I can't even go into the beer threads, it hurts so much. But, by mid July, I should be up and brewing and talking and posting about beer again, here a "Rocky Mountain Buckeye Brewers"!

So far, having a great timie here in Idaho. Had a awesome long weekend of camping last weekend. And this weekend I will be going to my first beerfest. The Mountain Man Brewers Fest, in in Twin Falls, Idaho. Twenty bucks gets you unlimited 3oz pours. There are 80+ brewers going to be there. That means bare minimum of 17 pints. With that said, any pointers for me and my best friend liver to survive it? I do plan to carbo load on vitamin B.
