Not surprising to me after they sold the first 50%

Pretty interesting interview about the possibilities this opens up

The article itself is open access and loses me pretty early on

Interesting talk with Brett Porter, GI's brewmaster, on scaling up his recipes.

I've been sad to see Green Line APA everywhere now. When they launched it, it was draft only and only in Chicago city limits. Green Line pays tribute to the El train line that's closest to their brewery. It was a solid beer.

Yeast and Fermentation / Omega Labs HotHead ale yeast
« on: February 07, 2016, 08:48:49 PM »
Anyone tried this yeast? The LHBS had split a batch and fermented one part at 65(ish) and the other at 89 degrees. I expected the 89 version to a hot fusely mess, but I liked it better than the cooler version. It has some really good fruity esters. I think I'll give this a shot next summer when my garage gets hot.

The manufacturer says up to 98 degrees, even.

The Pub / Ballast Point files for IPO

Interesting to see this:

What was more interesting was their filing, which says 53% of the sales are from Sculpin and Grapefruit Sculpin. That wouldn't bode well for me as an investor.

"A profound victory for American craft", according to Tony Magee. I'd heard rumors something was in the offing for them.

Pretty interesting article, once you get past all the alarmist talk about controlling distribution of yeast.

The Pub / Interesting talk on succession planning and buyouts in breweries

The summary is good, but the whole panel discussion was pretty interesting.

The investor guy mentioned how the beer industry differs from others in the dislike of the big guys. He says many beverage companies start up with the goal of being bought out by Pepsi or Coke. Imagine a brewer saying his goal was to be bought by ABInbev!

Pretty interesting stuff. Including the fact that they dump almost all of every batch.

Commercial Beer Reviews / Chico or Mills River?
« on: November 03, 2014, 02:56:27 AM »
I bought my first Celebration of the year on Friday (I think they changed the recipe  :P ) and was wondering whether it was from Chico or the new brewery in Mills River. After some poking around on their web site, I found this
(6.6 MB PDF)

There's a code sprayed on the bottles that includes a C for Chico and an M for Mills River. It's pretty much impossible to read unless you shine a light into an empty bottle. My Celebration came from Chico, bottling line 2. The carrier didn't have all of the codes they list there, though.

The beer itself is excellent again. I look forward to this release more than any other seasonal.

*edit to correct a howling geographical error

I'll be there in a couple of weeks for a conference. Any suggestions on local beers to look out for? I'm planning on hitting the Schlafly tap room at least once. I've heard good things about Tallgrass, too.

If I ever move back into an apartment in the city, this is my new home. I love the idea of sharing space and equipment like this. More on their web site

Questions about the forum? / Favicon on SSL?

Something for the web admins. Now that the forum is on SSL, I miss the handy favicon in the tab to help me click over there. Can you copy it over?

And for those of you wondering what that is, the favicon is the tiny image file that displays in the tab next to the page title. Handy if you're like me and have a bunch of tabs open all the time.
