...University of Florida (Go Gators)...

I am taking the week off as well.  I leave for an R&R vacation to Hawaii in mid December so I have to plan my brewing around this.

As a child in the '60s, I was fascinated by the space program.  I remember watching the Mercury and Gemini launches on our little black and white TV.  I would like to see us return to the moon in my lifetime.

My name is Monty and I am 50 years old with seven children.  Not all of them are by me and only two live with us now.  I am an electrical engineer that specializes in high-power, high-voltage systems such as multi-megawatt microwave transmitters.  For the past year, I've been on a long-term assignment at the US Army Kwajalein Atoll (USAKA) here in the Marshall Islands.  Not too many miles away is Bikini Atoll where they open-air tested atomic bombs in the 40's and 50's.  Luckily there was little fallout that came this way so I don't glow in the dark.  When I am not brewing I like to sail and deep-sea fish.  Kwajalein Atoll is the largest lagoon in the world so outdoor watersports here are awesome.  I've only been a homebrewer since December 28th 2008.  Since then I've brewed 24 batches.  Just when I think that I've become decent at it, a batch will surprise me.  I've been a member of other internet homebrew forums but this one is by far the best.  I already feel that I've made friends here.

Oh yes, there are no privately-owned vehicles here.  I ride a bike everywhere and get wet when it rains (which is often).

Greetings from Kwajalein Island:

How the hell do you get brewing supplies out there!

Easy, Uncle Sam.  We live on a US Army Base and so we get our mail via an Army Post Office (APO).  The supplies usually get here in a couple of weeks.  That means for liquid yeast, I have to make a big starter and assume a low viability.  Also, only top-fermenting ales here.  Otherwise, it is like a paid vacation at a two-star resort.

... I'm flatulent enough without adding that. :-*

I hear ya!  The wife sometimes has to sleep on the couch.

Beer Travel / Oktoberfest in Munich
« on: November 13, 2009, 05:16:23 AM »
I've been trying to find my pictures but have you been to the greatest of all beer festivals; the Oktoberfest in Munich?  I've been in 1998, 2000, and 2004.  If I had the financial means, I would go every year.  What a blast!  What amazes me is there are 40,000 intoxicated people there and not a single fight.   Have you been?

I was wondering, do you pour the entire contents of bottled homebrew including the priming trub?  I used to but lately have gotten to a place where I leave the trub in the bottle.

My latest was an IPA-ish sort of beer brewed with a hint of rye and yeast harvested from a Saison Dupont.

Welcome, that sounds like an interesting brew.

Shirly Manson from the band Garbage.  I received back stage passes for one of their concerts and was able to hang out and chat with them after their show.  I had beers with the entire band but didn't talk to the dudes that much. ;D

I'm with you there man!  Is Shirley as gorgeous in person as she is in pictures?  That sure beats my Billy Carter story.
This was around 95 or 96 and yes, she was gorgeous!  She was very down to Earth, I enjoyed talking with her.  And her Scottish accent had nothing to do with it.
I love the red hair...

Perhaps there should be a 'other' category since I live neither in the US nor in any of the countries listed.
