General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Why I'm not a big fan of IPA any longer
« on: February 07, 2018, 01:10:08 PM »
Sorry to the OP! Didn't mean to turn this into an AB thread. Although I really was not familiar at all with that story.

I've been brewing on and off for a dozen or so years, wife, little kids, house...hard to get it in when wanted. The only few times I brew a year now consist of low hop brews. A bitter, a couple different types of Belgians and dry stouts. I don't have a lot of time to brew, and as much as I would love to experiment with different and new hops, I don't have the time at this stage in my life, so I actually kind of benefit from all of these different breweries going all in on trying it out for me. Will I blast them for being cloudy? Nah.

A couple months ago I read some article, maybe from nyt about how Wall Street brahs don't know anything outside of "dank juicy IPAs" in terms of craft brews...and that to me is sad. Perhaps this huge wave, I consider it the second, of IPA interest will eventually turn more people on to other styles. So in the end major, perhaps you'll end up getting more interest in non-IPA beers that you prefer.

I'm not against IPAs, but i will say a couple of weeks ago someone had a little keg of warsteiner...and I may have had a bunch of glasses...and I may have said...this is a really good change of pace.

Ha! Go figure, professor recommends a yeast that resembles the one from Ballantine, and Denny recommends dennys favorite. This post could have been written 10 years ago on the good ol' northern brewer forums and it would have turned out exactly the same.

1028 works just fine for an esb. It will be rather clean compared to other U.K. varieties, but you won't be disappointed with the results. I've always thought it was the brightest of the bunch.

I was able to watch the Broncos beat the Chiefs last Sunday. Manning has that ball on a string and can put in a 6" hole anywhere on the field. Amazing skills!

Did you see him at Gillette stadium against the pats? Duck city.

Saints and Broncos - could go either way.

Peyton...new jersey...mid winter...no. I have a hard time seeing him win at home even come early jan.

After last night, nobody is geared to beat Seattle in Seattle throughout the playoffs...and nobody is better suited for the outdoors then the Seahawks come Super Bowl time.

Seattle over New England. Nfl creates new rule for patriots after the loss, corner backs are no longer allowed to blitz after Sherman scares Brady into a fetal position off a cornerback blitz, no contact made. Giselle makes comment saying that Tom can't throw and block corners at the same time.

I like a lot of weird music, but I can't stand Arcade Fire, or any of these new hipster folksy bands.

What is it you don't like about it?

I liked suburbs a lot, just not as much as funeral or reflektor. I think neon bible was my least favorite.

I really loved the here comes the night 22 min video when it came out. I thought the audio for here comes the night was much more raw, then what it was on the album.

Although, in my opinion, it falls short of funeral. I think this is their second best album. I love the David Bowie influence throughout the album. Like 1980's labyrinth David Bowie.

I know this cd received some pretty negative reviews, but I think it is, again, a different approach to an album...like they seem to do for every album. The overall theme of the album is pretty sad, but many of the songs def make you want to get up and dance...more so then any other album. The beats are very catchy. Oh Eurydice and oh Orpheus are my favorite tracks on the album, easily.

I have to assume there are other indie lovers out there...

I loved watching games on tbs, having the pitch tracker their constantly. With fox, I find myself seeing a pitch and hoping they'll show the pitch tracker.

Seems like Carl is having a bit of a tough time dealing with the G-Men's season as well:

Man I used to be a huge athf fan back in the day. I think at one point I could quote the entire 'visitors from beyond Pluto' ep.
