The Pub / Arcade fire - reflektor

Although, in my opinion, it falls short of funeral. I think this is their second best album. I love the David Bowie influence throughout the album. Like 1980's labyrinth David Bowie.

I know this cd received some pretty negative reviews, but I think it is, again, a different approach to an they seem to do for every album. The overall theme of the album is pretty sad, but many of the songs def make you want to get up and dance...more so then any other album. The beats are very catchy. Oh Eurydice and oh Orpheus are my favorite tracks on the album, easily.

I have to assume there are other indie lovers out there...

In sitting here, dumbfounded. I don't know what to say. I didn't have high expectations but I didn't think it'd be this bad. The giants are 0 and 4 and I am beside myself. I'm looking to jets fans, browns fans, heck even jaguar fans. How's the best way to deal with such times?

Yeast and Fermentation / what to do with s-33
« on: September 29, 2011, 07:30:58 PM »
so i'm making a dubbel this weekend. i'm currently at the inlaws on long island for the holiday and was killing some time, thought i'd check out a homebrew shop close by. was looking for some wyeast or white labs but the shop only had dry yeast, when i went for T-58 the owner said 'oh no, don't use that, use the s-33, it gives great belgian characteristics!'. i had somewhat remembered reading reviews of s-33 but decide to take the guys word for it and make the $3 purchase...well i get home, do some searches, and low and behold i read less than thrilling reviews of s-33 for belgian styles. when i get back to CT i'll venture off to get some abbey II or trappist...but now i have this packet of s-33...what the heck kind of yeast is this? i've heard it's a less attenuative english yeast? help? please don't say it's a dry edme yeast...i have read that and don't really know what it means... :(

i got a lb of them, i want to use them...should i make a oat stout and just replace flaked oats with the golden naked oats? i heard they're sweet and berry like so i'm nervous that it'll just be like mixing in c10 into a stout...which i guess could work? help?

Beer Recipes / belgian dark strong ale
« on: July 15, 2010, 05:04:13 PM »
i'm looking to make a belgian dark strong ale. i saw a couple of recipes on the brew wiki link that's here and thought both had too complex of a grain bill for me at least...not knocking them, i just dont' have access to all the ingredients. so here's what i'm looking to do at least grain bill wise...

Pilsner Malt (2 Row) Belgium   12 lbs
Munich Malt                   4 lbs
D2 candi syrup               2 lbs
Biscuit Malt                   0.5 lbs
Caraaroma                                   0.5 lbs
Caramunich Malt                   0.5 lbs

am i way off track? will this just end up like a massive dubbel? would that be a bad thing?
