So here is my system. Paid $40 for the hot water tun, $18 for fittings, Mash tun was $12 on sale, $20 fittings,
$109 for 25 gal boil kettle at All burners are turkey frier, one I had and cant remember how much paid for second. Steel table is just my welding table that I already had. Chiller is home made from copper tubing I bought on clearance. The most expensive thing I bought was my Barley Crusher $114.50 Then found a gear reduction motor at surplus for $15 and spent $18 on drive gears and sprockets. Yesterday I scored 3 18 gal food grade open top barrels for $20 ea.
What do you think for less than $500 total.  Have more than that into cabinets and my sink

Have you thought about hooking up with a local Pub? There are a lot of Brew Pubs popping up around here. As long as they are serving food and being inspected there is no other licensing required. Not sure what they are doing to retail as some are selling growlers. Personally I think there is a market for 5 gal kegs. Could sell premium beer and still be aforadable

I have a grease pit in my barn and right now it is pushing 70 right now. usually it is 60 to 65. I might just have to wait till we get a few cool nights to get it cooled back down.  I do all grain 15 gallon batches.
Would any one use sugar in a Pils to dry it out a little more?

My wife does not like the beers I have made lately and think I will try a nice light pilsner. Any recipie suggestions. I don't have lager capabilities yet.

I use a 5 gal paint strainer. Floats around fine and lets the hops move.

Sams Club online. 100qt pot for $100 delivered. I have almost that much into my keggle and it is heavy. The aluminum pot weighs about 15 lbs.

Isn't a black beer a stout or porter? I know hoppy is not right for this style but this would fit better than an  IPA. I just did a Black Porterr and I think it could have used a little more hop flavor/

I toast my own grains all the time. The first time I toasted and went right into batch and was not real good. Now I do a week before and put into a brown paper bag for a week and I make a mean toasted brown ale ;D
