Kegging and Bottling / Re: Custom Belgian Wire Hoods
« on: August 15, 2013, 02:40:13 PM »
I am hoping that this isn't a question with no answer, so I'm asking early.

Long story made short is that for our wedding in September '14, my fiance and I are brewing all of the beer. We are also brewing a version of my BGSA to serve as the 'champange' toast. We will be bottling these in 750mL Boulevard Smokestack bottles. I already know the exact size of the cork needed for these bottles, but my real question comes with the wired hoods.

Is there a vendor out there that will make custom wire hoods for a cork and cage finish? I can find plenty of custom bottle caps, but that isn't what I'm looking for.

Sounds awesome.  Why don't you try to contact Boulevard (hopefully someone more on the dirty side vs clean front office side) and give them your story.  It wouldn't surprise me if they would send you some

I'm guessing about $1,500 in hardware in the last year, and avg est $100 per month in gredients
I may have significantly underestimated my actual expenses.  I tried to be honest, but I don't really want to know...

I'm in the same boat.  I made a good guess, but I don't really want to know

24 hours takes a lot of out of the gunk out but I've found 36-48 hours to be slightly better.  If you give it a full 4-5 days you'll be amazed at the clarity.

What issue is it from? Can someone post the CI recipe or would that be unethical? I've had subscriptions off and on but currently off.

I'm also an on/off subscriber, currently off.  Whenever I'm looking for a certain recipe googling 'cooks illustrated <recipename>' always comes up with the official recipe 1st and then the 2nd and/or 3rd have it reprinted in someones blog (though sometimes with modifications).

I forgot I had picked up one of these, it's sitting in one of the fridges.  I'll have to try it tonight.

Thanks for the reminder

I just downloaded and installed it and it works fine with my login.  Are you sure the login you are trying to use is the one for the AHA site and not the forum?

See if you can access the NHC presentation with those credentials

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: Meadmaker Book Promo Code

The code for the free book does not show up on the receipts, but is visible to our team processing new memberships.

If you would like to confirm that the promo code was entered correctly, you may contact Member Services and they can check for you: 1.888.822.6273 ext. 0 or

Thanks Steve!

I'm pretty certain I entered the code, but if I didn't no big deal.

Maybe someone can recommend to the IT/development department that they add promo code or something to receipts in the future?

It was very timely that my subscription ran out and the book deal came out.  I just checked out my email receipt and don't see anything about the book either, so I'm hoping it's all in the backend of the system.

One of the other benefits of printing your own labels at home is that it's also slightly cheaper vs paying at the store.

I'm going again, this will be the 3rd year for me

I know you can boil it, but it's only an ounce of starsan, plus I use a hop spider and I'm not good at juggling 212° wet things while drinking homebrew. Plus it's the only way I know to copper plate cheap tools lol!

Back when I used an immersion chiller and something like a hop spider I would just put the chiller in before the 1st hop addition and leave it in the whole time

I spent an hour or so at DTW a week ago between going to NHC and heading to GA.  I was flying out of the C gates so nowhere near the Heineken pub but there was a "Detroit Metro 500" bar that had Short's Humalumpalicious on tap.  Nothing else special on tap there.
