Beer Travel / GABF 2010 Setup.
« on: September 18, 2010, 09:21:45 PM »
Sharing some pics of the setup of the GABF this year. Heading back tomorrow to tear it down. Congrats to the winners

Mostly shots of the empty great hall at the Great American Beer Festival. One of the line to get in. I have some video. Once I figure how to share it I will.

The Pub / Great weekend, but....
« on: September 06, 2010, 07:54:20 PM »
So in preparing for our event, we had one last errand to run. So we jump in an old
truck, no A/C hot enough to require opening the windows for chillin...

Here is where it gets weird. The odds are just staggering...

The side view mirror is supported by a small rod along the bottom edge of he mirror.
The whole mirror and rod form a gap about 1.25" wide along the side of the car. My
arm was hanging out the window just letting the air flow around. We are headed west
at about 55-60mph. arm hits the eastern end of a west-bound wasp, it
shot right through the gap.

The really funny part is, I was mid sentence talking about someone's reaction to an
argument we were having. My line of pain induced swearing did not interupt my
conversation.  ;D

That is my biggest complaint for the weekend. Lots of fun on my end. Anyone else
have a crazy anecdote for this past weekend?

The Pub / Anyone following any of the World Cup?
« on: June 15, 2010, 01:06:22 AM »
I'm not a huge fan but I love having another venue for the world to compete. The teams I am watching
Brazil  -only cause they are the like the Yankees of the futbol world...

Equipment and Software / I want to re-motorize my mill
« on: May 30, 2010, 04:08:38 PM »
I have a monster mill, I have had great luck with it and recently had my drill burn out. I am looking into a more
permanent motor and sheave and belt system. So my question:

Would a motor that runs with these specs be ok?

• 115 VAC
• 1/30 HP
• 1625 RPM
• 0.50 Amps
• Capacitor start (supplied)
• CW facing shaft
• Thermally protected
• Shaft: front 5/16 dia. x 15/16" long with pinned 7/8 dia. cog pulley;
   rear shaft 5/16" dia. x 1/2 long. Size 3-3/8 dia. x 3-1/4" long. New.

The Pub / Spring Time on the Front Range.
« on: May 26, 2010, 03:11:38 PM »
:'(  I had every intention of starting the garden today. It looked a little gloomy to the west.
But not bad.

I made it to the grocer for some missed items.
Come back out and it's pouring.
Stop at Lowe's and it's hailing 1/2 stones.

Drive home at 30mph because of white out conditions(still hail). Get home, my plants are
shredded to bits. All the plants I had to put in the ground today, rabbit food. >:(

Here is what is left of the storm...They called it a super cell. But it is going on 4 hours. They're
only supposed to last 45 min! And the pink hue on the pic is from the tornado warning box.
Bottom left you can see the diagonal red line for the edge of the warning area. I live in Brighton.

Equipment and Software / 55gallon barrels and Home brew clubs
« on: May 08, 2010, 08:05:06 PM »
Any home brew clubs out there have a whiskey/bourbon barrel they rotate beer through?

My club just got one and we're in the process of filling it. There are about 4-6 of us filling it and
want to know how to get a rotation going and if there are any good ideas on the process.

Or do you just fill and completely empty each time?

Any thoughts and pointers are welcome...

Beer Travel / New Orleans.
« on: April 28, 2010, 08:15:01 PM »
I'm heading down to New Orleans for a wedding. Any beer recommendations?
I won't have much time to hit a brewery but if there are preferred local brews I
would like to try a few.

Wish me luck I may not make it down there...

Ignoring the auto-complete on Google, type in "Where is Chuck Norris" and click on I'm feeling lucky!

Equipment and Software / Pin lock relief valve mod?
« on: April 01, 2010, 08:10:30 AM »
Has anyone added a pressure relief valve to a lid that did not originaly have one.
Particularly a pin long? Just wondering, I have an all ball lock collection of kegs
and my neighbor has all pinlocks and he does not have a single reliefe valve.

Ingredients / Is there a possibility of "Over malting" grain?
« on: March 08, 2010, 11:57:50 AM »
I brewed Denny's Rye PA and my base malt had quite a bit of grain that had the root growing out of it.
the mash, once drained, looked like I threw in some broken ramen noodles. Does the malting process
go to far and is there an adverse effect when that happens.

Beer Travel / Stone Brewing Rally
« on: March 06, 2010, 11:06:47 PM »
So, St. Arnold last week and Stone next week. Anyone going? I saw the tour bus organization
but I believe I may be to "off the route" to join in. I hope to fly into Carlsbad from LA and Denver.

San Diego should be warmer..I'll be in an Orange Mile High Monks shirt.

General Homebrew Discussion / Anyone headed to St. Arnold today?
« on: February 28, 2010, 07:33:40 AM »
Just wondering if I'll run into some forum folks at the AHA rally today?

Ingredients / Rye Flour
« on: February 24, 2010, 08:47:28 PM »
Someone handed me about 5# of rye flour and said they used it in their Rye beer.
It was a very tasty beer. The rye came right out. Anyone else out there use rye flour
instead of grain? Thoughts?

Beer Travel / St Arnold Brewing in Houston
« on: February 03, 2010, 05:10:38 PM »
Anyone in Houston planning on going to the AHA rally on the 28th? I may fly down there for it.
Since it is a short rally it would be easy for me. I would love to meet up with forum folks...
