Scoresheets went out on Tuesday.

The Saint Louis Brews are pleased to announce that of 90 entries from 33 different states, the winners of the AHA September/October Club Only Competition for the Light Hybrid Category are:

First Place - Bill Lynch of Waxhaw, NC representing the Carolina Brewmasters with a 6A Cream Ale
Second Place - Ryan Harper of Pflugerville, TX representing the Austin Zealots with a 6B Blond Ale "Blonde Bomber"
Third Place - Brian Pramov of Denver, CO representing the Rock Hoppers with a 6D American Wheat or Rye Beer "B-Rye"

Congratulations to the winners! A huge thanks goes out to the judges that made this happen today. Scoresheets should be in the mail early this week.

Looking at pickling lime, it appears that there is some amount of iron in the grocery store products.  Is it a negligible amount as far as brewing and calculations?

So, is adding CaCO3 to a mash basically useless?  It sounds like it will neither add calcium nor raise the mash pH.

Events / 19th Annual Happy Holiday Homebrew Competition

The Saint Louis Brews are currently accepting entries for the 19th Annual Happy Holiday Homebrew Competition. The HHHC is a fully sanctioned AHA/BJCP
event. It is the final MCAB qualifying event for 2010 and is also the final leg of the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year circuit.

Entries must be received by Friday Dec 3, and the judging will be held on December 8, 10,and 11. Please visit the HHHC website for all competition details and online entry registration.

You could win a STAINLESS STEEL CONICAL FERMENTER this year!  Our friends at The Respiratory Group have donated a stainless steel conical as a BOS prize.  Again, visit the HHHC website for further information.

Also, if you are interested in being a judge or steward for the competition use the above link for online registration.  Judges will be entered into a raffle (one entry per session judged) for a stainless steel "Penrose" kettle also donated by The Respiratory Group.
