Make sure the hood is at least 6 inches outside the limits of your kettle(s).

Is that 6 inches on either side of the kettles, or 6 inches total outside the kettles?

Have you thought about something like this?
https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/index.php?threads/636955/
I just switched to a 240v induction setup and was exploring the vent Hood option as well when I ran across this thread and I think it's the route I'm going to go.
Just a thought, Cheers!

I saw that in another thread.  That's a cool idea, but I think I'd rather stick with a hood.

We're getting our basement finished and I'm looking to install a 240V 10 gallon electric brew system.  Any recommendations on what size hood in terms of cubic feet per minute (CFM) would be required?  I wouldn't anticipate any more than a 1 gallon per hour evaporation rate.

General Homebrew Discussion / Re: AHA Membership
« on: November 28, 2017, 08:55:16 PM »
Hey Forum Friends,

I wanted to post a thank you to all of you who are AHA members, the AHA Forum couldn't exist without you!

For those of you who have not yet joined up or perhaps have let your membership lapse, we could use your support now to hit our year-end membership goal.  The AHA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting homebrewing.  Membership is by far our largest source of revenue, so joining the AHA is the best way you can show your support for the organization and this Forum.

Plus, now happens to be a great time to join, since we have our annual Give the Gift of membership promotion going on through the end of the year. (Note to current members: you can use this deal to extend your membership.)

Here’s the deal: when you purchase a 1-year membership gift card, you get to choose a free gift to go with it.

The free gift options are …

•   Stainless steel AHA-branded tumbler/koozie (why have cold hands and warm beer when you can have warm hands and cold beer?!  I actually have one of these and I love it.)
•   Brewing Local: American-Grown Beer by Stan Hieronymus.  ‘Nuff said.
•   For the Love of Hops by Stan Hieronymus. Essential for any brewer’s library whether you’re a hophead or not.

The member cards are $43. Each free gift is a $20 value. You can order for a friend OR give yourself an early Christmas present. AHA member benefits include:

•   One-year subscription to Zymurgy magazine
•   Discounts at 1,800+ Member Deals locations, including pubs and homebrew shops
•   eZymurgy online magazine and app (and archives going back to the year 2000)
•   Seminar recordings from previous Homebrew Cons
•   Winning recipes from the National Homebrew Competition
•   Exclusive invitation to events such as the National Homebrew Competition and Homebrew Con
•   And much more!

https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/gift-membership/

Cheers!

Gary

P.S. The promo runs through Dec. 31 -- but you’ll want to order by Dec. 12 for holiday delivery.

P.P.S. Those who activate their gift cards by December 31 will be entered to win a complete Brewers Publications dream library—49 titles valued at over $1000.

The Pub / Re: how long to get renewal bonus

Thanks for renewing, Steve!  We expect the coupons to mail next week.

Is it next week yet?
Sorry for the delay!  White Labs ran short on certificates and had to print more.  The last of them should be going out this week.

See you at H.U.B. on the 18th?

I wish!  AHA Assistant Director Steve Parr will be there, though.

General Homebrew Discussion / Did you start brewing at 55 or older?
« on: October 26, 2017, 04:32:28 PM »
I had a reporter reach out to me wanting to speak to homebrewers who started brewing at the age of 55 or older. This is for a feature that will appear on www.nextavenue.org/

Coverage of homebrewing in the media is a great way to introduce more people to the hobby, so for the greater good, if you fit the bill, please reach out to:

Debbie Swanson: debbie@swansonwriting.com

Thanks!

Welcome to homebrewing, Randy!

I'm pretty sure that 14-28 days in the instructions is the time in the bottles for conditioning/carbonating.  So yes, bottle when fermentation is complete.

The AHA Forum should now be ad free on TapaTalk.  Please let us know if ads reappear.

Questions about the forum? / Re: Ads on Tapatalk.

Thanks Gary. I saw the ad on the app. Just starting showing up in the last day or two, after the Tapatalk App updated.

The AHA Forum isn't the only forms this is occurring on either, so might just be something on the Tapatalk side of things.

Thanks!  We've got a trouble ticket in with TapaTalk.  This is definitely on their end.

Josh, thanks for posting!

Did you see that ad on the app or via Tapatalk online?  It looks like we may have had a mistake on our settings for the online version, which may have allowed ads to show up there.  There definitely should not have been Tapatalk-placed ads in the mobile version.  It is not our intention for Tapatalk to be placing ads on the AHA Forum.

We should have this corrected, but please follow up if you continue to see these kinds of ads in the future.

Questions about the forum? / Re: Kudos

Thanks Ralph,

Homebrewing is rapidly growing in popularity throughout Latin America and in Spain, however, there is not much homebrew content available to Spanish speakers.  The new Spanish language boards (one is for homebrewers and one is for professional brewers) are one means of providing resources for Spanish speakers.

The AHA also started translating each issue of Zymurgy into Spanish and making that content available to AHA members in the Magazines section of HomebrewersAssociation.org.  So far we've translated the January/February and March/April 2017 issues.  The May/June issue is in the process of being translated.  You can find the translations here: https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/magazine/zymurgy-en-espanol/

I share that sentiment.

14?  There are only 13 candidate statements.

Have you been drinking?  I count 14.
