All Grain Brewing / Re: Anyone used Skagit Valley Malting grain?
« on: February 18, 2017, 05:29:00 AM »
Yes, I have used the copeland for an IPA and another but I can't remember the grain. Both beers turned out great and they were a local grain which is a plus for me

Kegging and Bottling / Re: Counter-pressure bottle filler

Anyone use one? If so, which one? There are a lot on ebay, most come from China. I don't think I can make one for less than I can buy it due to raw product costs. Suggestions?

Out with the old in with the new.  Trying for a SV propane then build into an electric RIMS down the road.

64qt Bayou Classic
15" false bottom
15.5 gallon BIAB
Bayite DC pump -2.1GPM

Looking for advice for anyone working with these kettles right now.  Any issues anyone has had with the false bottom or with this little high temp pump.  I didn't want to put to much $$ into this in case I modified for low dissolved oxygen brewing with a 2V set up.  If that's possible.

Thus far I have the ball valve drilled.

The false bottom

I'm not sure how high to put the brew thermometer, currently it is marked for 4.5 gallons but not drilled

The baby DC pump that I want to feed through the Lid into a spray nossel.  The pump is a high temp.  Says it can handle boiling Temp but would not use outside of Mash Temps..

What is the model of the pump? I'm considering a second one for my mash recirculation, the big pump I have is too strong and I have to close the out valve to restrict flow

You could also soak it in PBW.

Equipment and Software / DIY or prebuilt PID

I bought the equipment for mine from Amazon , used the Inkbird controller, and old alarm panel box, a relay, one outlet, two switches for the outlets, a couple of inline fuzes, and a small switch for the controller. I used YouTube to research the build for the controller box, there are a lot of good videos and some even provide links to the wiring build.  I bought the rims tube, temp well, and heating element from brewershardware.com.

Yoga mats? Like Subway?

Lets see...using an inert plastic to cap my mash??? Yeah, that's fine. I'm not eating it.

You aren't stupid enough to believe ANYTHING that Food Babe says...are you?
Sarcasm doesn't come across very well via text, does it?

What about when you use a RIMS system? Also, does it make that much of a difference at the micro level of 5 gallon batches?

It would not be worth as much if you drink it, the experience of drinking it would be wretched. Theo SE beers were not made to last, heck I remember the old man drinking Meisterbrau, and it was cheap stuff back then (he liked cheap beer). Smart money sells sell it as a collectible.
Wretched indeed.  Don't open that bottle!

That bottle is 30 or 40 years old?  Last spring my son-in-law gave me a special Budweiser millennium gift set of
4 engraved pilsner glasses that included a special 40 oz. bottle of Budweiser. The set had been passed around in Christmas white elephant parties for 16 years.  The glasses are great but I spit one mouthful of the beer all over the living room carpet. I guarantee that, if you drink that beer, you will be kneeling in front of the porcelain goddess in ten seconds.

So you're saying Bud hasn't changed whether it is a 16 year old Bud or a recently produced Bud?  :)
At least they are consistent..
