Ol' laptop is pretty snappy now despite some pixels going out; one usb port failing and having shot speakers. As long as this machine works I see no reason to replace.

Plug in an external monitor, speakers, a USB hub and you're good as new.

Reformat and reinstall from a recent backup.  You do backup, right?

I am a moderator on another forum.  Recently one of the forum members posted a link to a website.  Being a good moderator, I clicked on the link to check it out.  Turns out the website downloads ransom malware onto the computer of whoever visits the site.  It was a new and particularly heinous version of ransom malware.  My malware protection program never even saw it.

After two days of trying to remove it, I finally threw up my hands and reformatted my hard drive.  I was fortunate to have a three day old backup to reinstall from.  The other new stuff I needed I was able to recover from my email server.

Two wasted days trying to avoid losing my hard drive data.  Then reformatting anyway.  The best part is that I got rid of all of the old junk hanging around on my hard drive when I reformatted.

Back up often.  Don't waste time trying to disinfect, just reformat and reinstall.  It's easier in the long run.

Lower Alabama, shuh!

Funny thing is, the further north you go in Florida, the more Southern it becomes.

They were fun back in the day.  Sounds like they're becoming Times Square on New Years Eve these days.

Brew when you want too. Just keep in mind that your kid time is use it lose it.

Truer words have never been spoken.  They grow up in the blink of an eye.  Love 'em while you have 'em!

Prickly pear are cactus fruit.  They grow wherever cactus grow.  There are a gozillion different varieties; some fatter than others.  The prickly part is the rub though.  Messin' with them is worse than glassing a surfboard bare handed.  Cover up!

make some mead.

+1
I made a batch of prickly pear mead a few days before my son was born.   He's 14 now.  Still have 22 - 750mL bottles of it laid down in the cellar.  I made them for him to have for special events throughout his life.

The prickly pears came from cacti growing on the dunes that front the beach along Playalinda at Canaveral National Seashore - in the shadow of launch pad 39B.  It was a tradition of mine to go there on Labor Day weekend and pick pears for meadmaking.  My son was born 9/9/99.

It was legal to pick the pears there as long as they were not used commercially.

So, maybe to be eligible to enter the lottery, there should be a mandatory questionnaire assessing you and your guest's brewing knowledge/enthusiasm.  Then, if you or your guest are not deemed altruistic enough to attend, you would be excluded from entering the lottery.

Where's NHC '15 going to be held?

I'm going to the ADI conference in Seattle in April, so Grand Rapids is not going to happen for me.

If you are going to be in Seattle in April, there is a bunch of us who will be up here, maybe we can get together and share some beers. Maybe we can even get Denny to drive up.

Keep me informed.  It would make a good excuse to visit my brother up there.
I'd be up for that.

It's happening.  I'll be in Seattle for the ADI conference 3/28 through 4/4.  Anybody up for a beer or two?
