2011 Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere
« on: October 15, 2011, 06:25:37 am »
Picked up a bunch of these along with a couple Estates Thursday night.  Cracked a bottle of the Northern Hemisphere Wet Hop Ale last night - simply magic in a bottle - tons of pungent citrusy, resiny hop aromatics.  Nice and bitter, and layered with an edgy, complex hop flavor.

I've been really disappointed with the last 2 years versions, after the first year I had it ('07? '08?) when it was one of the best beers I had ever had, but 2011 seems to have recaptured all that was lost.

At $4.99 a bottle or less (i had a coupon) its a steal - highly recommended!

PS - The highlighting is for you, Tom  :D

I wonder if it is available in my area? Must try it!

I like this beer very much and I'll have to get some.  I tried to make one this year with fresh Centennials and Cascades and it didn't turn out as well as expected.

I looked for it yesterday but it was not in at my store. Soon I guess.

She told me that 2011 Celebration would be in this week!
The only reason that I mentioning that here...is for Tom...because SN (wadda they know) is calling it a Fresh Hop Ale. ;D

I guess you can drink that one. :D

Shouldn't you withhold comment until you taste the new recipe  :D

I like Celebration too, but I'm willing to give something new a try.

I bought a 2011 Southern Hemisphere Fresh Hop the other day.  I can't figure out why it was a special end cap at the Total Wine since the harvest for southern hemisphere hops was probably 6 months ago or how fresh they could have been after getting to Northern California, but the beer was nice.

Finally! And first sip I was like wuh? ohhh. It is quite a hop burst and it took me by surprise- I don't know why... It says "ale" not IPA or any abv. Nice beer this one will take a while to finish- maybe all night. :D
