Wild Blue (pic) Blueberry blue dog brewery
« on: November 09, 2011, 11:36:18 pm »
;D  Well a cowerker brought me a bottle of this beer.  I tried it tonight.
Pours deep purple...slight head that does not really last long and fades
to a light magenta foam ring around the edge of the glass. Aroma is faint of blue berries.
Not overpowering.  So you take a little sip and the sweetness is big at first with
beer in the background, no hops come through, none....The wife tried it and
said straight away she LIKED this beer.  I did another taste and then before
I realized it, I was having trouble putting it down. It is light and berry sweet on
the palate.  Not sour like a belgian kriek. The 8% alcohol is well hidden
and this is prolly one sneaky beer. At the end of the bottle you are like dang....better
find a little respect for the alcohol that is so well hidden.

I would like another please, but would have to be in the mood.

Another one that I can usually get. But blueberry?! Uhhhhh. Hmmmm. If I can get a single first then will try it the next time it get's seen. Always up for research on a recommendation.

Not so much a recommendation as a play by Play....I really would have
to be wanting a tutti fruti thing to persue a six pack...
think pyramid apricot only blue berry.....
(1vert is not real large on fruit beers) If I want fruit juice I know where to get that....

I had it sometime last year and absolutely didn't like it, despite my liking fruit beers a lot.  I gave five of the sixer away to a friend who's girlfriend liked wine coolers and she loved it.  I wouldn't want to bother with it again.

You should flip the six pack over and see where it's brewed... or more correctly who brews it...

I tried because my girlfriend wanted a blueberry beer.  I actually thought it tasted awful, and she didn't like it either.  Boulder Beer's Blueberry was a much more enjoyable one in my humble opinion.  But I'm in Boulder, so I have no idea what the availability is like around the country.

I'm pretty sure that the brewer makes a strong batch of their flagship that they then blend with weaker ones for consistency.  My buddy's and my best guess is that it's that strong batch mixed with blueberry juice.

All in all though, given the taste and who brews it, no thank you!

Yeah I know who brews it, but I gave it a shot anyway.  That was a waste ... since then I've been making sure to try certain brewers "one bottle first" before investing in a whole sixer.  I'm usually able to get mixed sixers and I try to give new beers a shot (one bottle at a time) no matter who makes them.  Let's just say that some brewers have "better records than others."

Several summers ago the family and I went camping at Tahquamenon Falls in Michigan which has a brewery on site. I had a blue ale there that they made. It was ok and I raved about it. That evening we stopped for supplies and the wife decided to treat me with Wild Blue  Blueberry ale. I about died and struggled to finish the six pack. When I got home I found out it was owned by AB. Haven't touched  the stuff since. I prefer my fruit beers to be more subtle.
