Stocking up on hop pellets
« on: December 20, 2011, 01:30:07 pm »
I understand that we may be in for higher prices both on hops and European grain.  If this is true, how many years of hop pellets would you store up?  One?  Two?  More?

Depends on how much space you have... I'd say if you have the space and $$... at least a years worth...

Stocking up on hops is a sickness.  I freely admit I am an addict. :-\

True as mort says, I have tons..well pounds of homegrown goodness,
but the trademarks on 'rillo, simcoe, sorachi keep me ordering.

Totally planning on expanding the Mt Hood and Crystal supply next year.

On that note,
Properly stored, pellets last a long time in the freezer. 8)

Invest in a vacuum sealer. Then you can indulge in your hop purchases. ;D I didn't have to buy hops for over a year.

Well, I'm pretty sure I have close to a two year supply of pellet hops in my freezer, but I'm afraid to look. Yet I keep buying more. Yes, it is a sickness. The good news is that with them being vacuum sealed and frozen, they will keep for a long time.
