Looks like I'll finally be getting time to brew on 1/6.  Making a chanterelle wee heavy for NHC.
I would like to try that brew!

Just got my first mead into the fermenter.  Five gallons OG 1.110 orange blossom honey with 71B-1122.

That's pretty much exactly what I made a few weeks ago. Mine is just finishing up fermenting. Gravity sample tasted great.

Did you stagger the nutrient additions or just throw them all in at the start?

I had a guest over yesterday, Gordon Strong is in town and came over and we brewed a Baltic Porter.  We also made a marionberry mead during the boil.  Great fun. :)

Very cool Tom!

Gordon is one of the homebrewers on the top of my list to brew with.  :)

I believe I'm going to test a new recipe for a bitter tomorrow for the last brew of the year.

I staggered the additions over 72 hours.  It went from 1.150 to 1.012 in two weeks.  It may drop another point or two.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing as well.  One more addition today and then I'll let it roll.

I was planning on brewing today but I was way too slow getting started this morning after watching the new year roll in last night.  So I'll do some prep work today and bump the brewing until tomorrow morning.  Early tomorrow morning.  Gotta be done before the football starts.  ;)

First all grain batch today using my new converted 54Qt Coleman cooler. Its red, so I know its not quite up to par, but free is better than blue. Its a very sessionable ordinary Bitter, 1.035 Original Gravity Hopped strictly with EKG, my efficiency was only 70% but I'm not too worried given its my first all-grain batch. Looks like it should be done and ready for drinking within the month!

Congrats on your first all grain!  70% efficiency is fine and you'll be happy with your results.

He's doing a lot of judging and talks/book signings, and we organized a talk for him while he was here - we had over 50 people together to hear his presentation and pepper him with questions, and he sold/signed some books too. :)
