Hop pest
« on: July 21, 2010, 01:26:42 pm »
This is the second year that I have grown hops.  The first year I didn't really pay too much attention since I started them late and they spent most of the energy developing the root system.  However this year, since we finally warmed up here in the PNW they are growing nicely.
Having said that, I have noticed a 1/2-inch long brown and black, slightly furry looking bug on the under side of the hop leaves.  Has anyone seen or heard of these?  Should I spray my hops with a pesticide?
Thanks for the help,
Mike  ???

One common pest is the cutworm.

Looks like this.

Here's a good link with control info.
