Weihnachtsbockbier (Christmas bock beer)
« on: June 24, 2011, 08:03:07 am »
so we are having our summer office party and started thinking i should have brewed a beer for this.  (last year i brought some vienna) then i was thinking that we also do a christmas party.  so i am thinking of brewing this beer. anyone have any ideas that would make this beer a little unique/special? (in my office there are three men and about 15 ladies - of course their husbands tend to show up.

so i finally got around to tinkering with this.  first iteration on ingredients.  2 gallon batch brew house efficiency (guessing will be 60 % but will likely be higher will adjust volume, hops to match
kind of a hoppy bock with some flair for christmas

vienna 3lb
rye 1 lb
toasted oats 0.5 lb
munich dark 3 lbs

magnum hops 0.25 ounce 60 min
sterling .4 ounce 10 minutes
wyeast 2308 likely

og 1.071 fg 1018, ibu 40, color 18, abv 6.8

any comments will be welcome

i would be careful on the DP - dark munich has very low DP(~25), as does rye IIRC, vienna is higher (~50), but that's only enough to convert itself plus a little more.

You may think about doing either a longer mash (90-120min) or incorporating some pilsner or two row malt to up the equation.

good luck.
